I dun know about whether they respect whoever or not,
but the Mas Selamat escape was embarrassing for the
Gurkha contingent.
Gurkha are well known as good soldiers, but not so renown
as an independent army.
The escape of Mas Selamat is proven to be a failure of the
system. Even after the escape, he could hide in his sister's house,
escape all the way to JB, it is not just the failure of some
guards, or the detention camp, but the whole system.
It is not fair to put the embarassment on the Gurkha.
