Buying Hyundai-Tucson

Hi Guys,

Im just new here and this is my first post.

I would like to know or have some advise from all of you about my plan
of buying Hyundai Tucson. My take homepay is 4200-5500
but I have some financial obligations. I'm a bit scared coz I heard
from some friends that parking, ERP, maintenance, road tax, petrol etc.. is expensive.

If let say the monthly is 685 SD, what should be my total expenses for
having this car. Im looking forward for your advise...

Eh.. not that I want to discourage you ler.. The feedback from my cous who also drove a Tucson since 2004 was that it's a guzzler compared to Trajet. Sorry for throwing wet towel... Rolling Eyes

Maintaining a Hyundai Tucson shouldn’t be anyway more expensive than a Japanese sedan. An average monthly petrol bill should be anywhere between $200 – $300 depending on your mileage.

i will take Kia Sportage over Tucson.

They share identical chasis and engineering (engine, suspension, etc). But the trim in Sportage is much classier than the brother Hyundai.

You guys don't seem to understand him. He just mentioned financial obligations and you are suggesting a rx300?

Actually I own a Tucson myself. My last car was a CRV. I didn't like the CRV as it felt too civilised. It was not like what you expect an SUV to be. The interior was also getting aged. I bought the Tucson after test driving the RAV4 and Sportage. I found the Tucson to be more fun. I didn't like the Sportage because of the quarter window in the C pillar. The Tucson is built like an American SUV with thick C pillars, very much like the Chevy Blazers and the GMCs. Tucson was voted the best Crossover in Canada and it's now the best selling SUV in Singapore. You cannot go wrong if there are so many people driving it. You should stop and talk to Tucson owners. Ask them questions and you'll probably get a better picture. Gas consumption has been pretty decent, bearing in mind it's a 2 litre. I am very happy with it and will only upgrade to a larger SUV if finance permits.

It's true Kia and Hyundai share the same chassis. Someone told me the Tucson was conceptualised and meant for the North American market while Kia was meant for the Asian.

To me, the real difference lies in the cost of maintainance. Tucson sells by sheer numbers and invariably parts are cheaper and readily available. Kia is distributed by C & C, the people that brings you Mercedes and they are not noted for cheaper parts and servicing. Again speak to the people that owns these two models and you'll get a better picture.

i think that the "most people owns one, so i should get one too" mentality is such a cliche. try something different if you can. there are already too many tucson on the roads.

i too liked the tuscon when komoco first brought it to singapore, i love the lifestyle associated with the SUVs. but nowadays, tucson is just like a cheap alternative to owning a bigger car to rival the Mercs and Beemers on our narrow roads.

I averaged $350 for my Tucson and I do 20,000 kms a year, just about the National average mileage. I didn't take a 90% loan, so I'm paying less but even if you consider a 90% loan quantum, you shouldn't even be breaking the $700 barrier, so how did you get $1,800? For that kind of monthly commitment, I'd be looking at a Toyota Harrier.

Olim, I suggest you stop a Tucson driver the next time you meet one in the carparks. He will be better qualified to tell you.

my 1.6L Sunny cost avg $1.4k/mth.

$1.8k is not instalment. Its the total cost of owning Tucson,including road tax,insurance etc

so i did my calculation from the increase in fuel cost, road tax and insurance
Difference of $400 / mth from here

what is your average cost of owning your Tucson?

My uncle is a tucson owner…former that is….The car is good but the only downside is the fuel. If you are the type that only goes to work and come back home straight without picking up ur wife, son etc. it’ll be ok. He spent at least $400++ on fuel itself. Now change to Forester…although turbocharged, it has even better fuel consumption that tucson. Nevertheless it is still a fun car to drive…and for my own preference? nah…i wont get a tucson…if i have that take home amount of pay u have…i would rather get something more reliable…(jap SUVs)
