While others conveniently "collaborated" with the Japanese,
there were quite a few honorable Singaporeans who died fighting
against the Japanese murderers who swept across China and Southeast
Asian countries.
One such hero was a gentle person in his mid-30s and a
conscientious activists taking responsibility
to improve life of society - he was ‘Lim Bo
Seng’
In ‘1944
– he was known as The Hero of Force 136’ and
his reputation became legendary in his personal endurance under
brutal torture by the Japanese Kempetai Secret Police
- who tried to extract information from him but got
nothing.
He died in the hands of the Japanese.
After the war, a pagoda-like memorial was erected at the
Esplanade Park, and his grave remains on a small hill at
MacRitchie Resevoir - where one can see many Tai
Chi practitioners exercising every morning.
