There's no way you can get the COE if you bid $10,000 and the final COE is $12,000 The COE price is based on the lowest bidder

Hey thks for prompting... i did went to my agent with this in mind .. and she agreed to give me the $14,503 open cat COE...

meaning i pay $12,500 ( $11000 +$1500) for a $14,501 ( lower of CAT A and open cat )

She did said that if no one ask, TC will give the lower one...

My two bids was at the same amt.. and they nvr up the bids was damn disappointed then. I call my agent at the end of the first bid. I ask her... if the COE remain high for the rest of the bids and TC still dont up, i'm sure not to get de mah... she said dont worry after each bidding, the company will meet up with SE to strategies the next move.

.. so when they say they have an open cat for me after i failed my 2nd bid, i am very surprise.

but i can understand why.

Cos they dont wont to " lose" too much either.

If u dont mind open cat... top up a little but make sure TC also have to throw in a little.

in my case they have to throw in $2k.

Still they will make money de..

And according to all my car owners friends... all concluded that Nissan is very aggressive, u will get in 6 bids.. is only whether u want to wait nia. So dont lose ur cool. I think they are just doing their job by asking if u want open cat.

or perhaps.. they are just spreading mthly sales quotas.

i think there is a difference with open cat when a persons or future buyer of the car wants to scrap his car before 10 year. I may be wrong

Yes u are right. To top up for Cat E is as good as throwing $ away. U pay the price for Cat E while having the Scrap Value equivalent of Cat A. If Cat A COE values at 14k and the Open Cat E is at 16k then u pay 16k for the sake of scrapping at 14k worth of value. Do you think it's worth it at all to pay that extra amt??? So what if the SE agreed to top up a bit while u also top a bit?? In the first place its their job to top up to the required amount cos they are not getting a cat A coe for u...

Talking about throwing away money.... getting a car is never an investment.. it is a yearly depreciating costs.

If really want to save... then just wait for the 6 bids.. dont get just change the brand loh.

The trick is never to pay beyond what u are paying for the CAT A in the same mth of the OPEN CAT that u are buying. Hence the top up u still wont lose. Unless one really fail maths.

Go check the past mths COE result and tell the agent exactly which COE u need shld u ever consider open cat.

My buddy's dad who owns a one yr old manual sunny is trading in for an auto sunny ( cost is $47k.) also cant get COE... but he's not worried since his existing car also so new. But if he can get...end result he can lower his mthly instalment.

According to my friend who is interested in sunny, her agent told her to wait till 2nd qtr/3rd qtr next yr for a brand new range of sunny if she dont want to risk losing value ( resale mkt Question ) in future when she sell competiting agst the new range.

There can never be a right time to buy.... COE may drop... may not drop.
New range will keep coming in...

maybe if u dont get by the 6th bid... u will be happy cos u can wait another 6 bid for the new range. I saw the pic... very very nice leh.

It is the company n the salesperson ( though company has more say)

U can find out how much they bid for ur car de.

Go into LTA website on bidding days... key in your ic and check ur bid..

u will know if u are still in for bidding or already outbid.

Anyway, if I don't get that piece of paper after 6 bids, I will go for other brands of cars, not Nissan anymore. There are some brands that also offer 4 or 6 bids and delivery is guarantee Laughing

COE tingy is a very complex issue.
Firstly, when car dealers post their price for a car, they would have a rough indication how the coe trend over the next few bidding would be like. They can based it on the volume of booking in the auto industry. 1 bid,3bids, 4bids are all gimmicks to entice buyers to pay more if they want the car earlier. So if coe is at all time low, car price are fixed then to cater for a resurge in the COE over the next few months.

Secondly, COE bidding is done usually by the sales manager with no inputs from SE. He/she will bid based on the stock situation and colour availability so that his port charges will not be excessive. i.e first in first out basis.

Thirdly, top up is all a ruse or marketing strategy for the weak. If you stay firm you will eventually get the car at the price you have decided on.

For the case of the new sunny model coming next year, it will most likely fall into cat B as the japan model is also 1.8l and 2 l similar to the new civic. The car is substantially longer about 4.6m whereas new civic is about 4.5m. But in terms of look the new sunny loses out to the civic, it looks like a scaled down cefiro.

Hey paul, how much did they bid for you? I’m exactly in the same situation as u. Bot sunny at 30k one loan. Last bidding, TC bid for me 13.3k. Earlier biddings also very very low..

i book OPC car first . convert later.

for normal car , min loan is 30k
for OPC car, min loan is 25k
and yes, i still receive the 1 k discount

Hi PaulQ, I booked a Sunny on next day when 12k COE came out on Wednesday. I take loan at 30k, TC bid for me 13.3k last biding.

I think we should get the COE at next two bids. If cant, Ill go to Toyota or Honda, dont want back to TC anymore. If TC fails to get COE for us in next two bids, they will lose a lot of Nissan customers.
