A group of engineers in singapore are developing a soft flexible material that is stab proof and is able to remove blunt trauma by a 100%! Conventional kevlar vests can stop bullets from penetrating but the punch from the bullet will still cause serious injuries depending on the location of the shot. And even when the person is not injured, the shock from blunt trauma will incapacitate him from immediately responding to threats.

With this soft material which is as effective as a hard steel or ceramic plate in reducing blunt trauma, the person shot will hardly feel any pain and can immediately retaliate or take evasive actions. And because the material is soft and flexible and can be worn anywhere on the body including joints, a fully body ballistic suit that covers the whole body is now possible!

lol....Who designed the cinematophy did it horribly. Can someone please drop a pressure sensor for 9mm bullet behind the fabric? Can the same material withstand a tracer round?

hahaha...yes the acting and filming is indeed rather comical. Guess we've got to pardon them for that. After all they are engineers. haha.. According to my sources, the material is so far able to pass NIJ level III standards. which is good enough for handguns used by police force. But they are confident that they can withstand rifle rounds in the near future.

The idea is not to act, just present the material as per. According to my knowledge, it's not idea to withstand a tracer round as a glycol base is going to be used to further spread the pressure.

Are you refering to the research done with Polyethylene glycol and silica nanoparticles? Where is your source of information? It will be good feedback to the engineers developing this material. Thanks!

As for the pressure behind the kevlar fabric, it is enough to break a rib or two. You can see in the video that even a 2cm thick rubber pad is penetrated when placed behind the fabric. Yes you are right, the material developed here (which is not glycol based) is to dissipate the energy to reduce the blunt trauma. The kevlar fabric in front is supposed to stop the bullet from penetrating.

d3o is good for a punch or even a shovel on the head. But against a bullet like that in the demo shown. no way. that's why it is only used in sports product and never in ballistic protection. Another product zoombang claims its application in blunt trauma protection but is only good enough to reduce the blunt trauma not get rid of it completely like what the engineers demonstrated.

so yeah. if these singa engineers get it right! they'd do us proud.

yeah why tracer? Its no different then a ball round, just some chemicals added to the tip to make it glow.

Tracer rounds are chemical burner rounds. If glycol base is used, the end effect of using a tracer round on the material would be rather spectacular.

Yap, no wonder when I fired off the tracer round. The round hit the target and have a explosive effect! illuminate the target at the sametime.

I think that depends on whether our army will approach them for it. After all they are engineers, not military personnel.
