1.1L Kia Picanto

May i know whether a man with a height of above 1.85m is suitable of driving a 1.1L Kia picanto? I am looking for a budget car but maybe my height is a restriction. To me Kia picanto is most valued for money in a long run. Please advise.

Go and try out yourself la. Free one, don't need to pay to sat in their showroom car, or even to test-drive it. Got friends at 180 driving kelisa, which I think is unthinkable, but they somehow manage.

Alternative, give Aveo a though. It is cheap for a 1.4cc car with a little more room for tall guys.

if possible, try rio which is a step above pic but has a larger size. Can put luggage, and windows are powered. Just go down kia and try out the two models. I feel even if you can squeeze into pic, it will be uncomfortable. Furthermore, it might be sluggish with a driver your size.

say if you take rio1.4, road tax 6mths cost $400(exact). For pic1.1, road tax 6mths cost $300+(not very sure of the figure, but is about there). 6mths $100 translate to $16 more a mth. So it should not be a prob. Furthermore, imagine the extra power. Even with my 1.4, when I carry full load of 5ppl, I can feel the lack of power, let alone the 1.1 engine.

Try Getz1.1 manual. Anyway, trust me, that road tax is the least you have to worry about. Cause other expenses that comes with cars will easily top that.

dont fall into the 'car trap'

its easier to get a car now....but harder to maintain it.

if u are concern with the car road tax, tt could be an indication ur budget would be really tight once u got urself a car.

My advise is...buy only if u need it and can afford it. And if u want to buy, buy something which u will have no regret. dont just go out there and grab any 4 wheels. (Im not saying bad about picanto). One man's meat is another man's poison. Depends on how u see it.

i know what you mean, but if we say for an average person, the body-mass ratio will mean that the taller a person, the heavier he is. A 1.8+m person will easily weigh 80kg, and it will be a task for the 1.1 engine to carry him around.
I feel that he should go look at 1.4 and below to widen the choice. Once you include 1.4 in, there are many more choices around.
For picanto, imagine your four doors, the lock is like those taxi tyoe where you pull or push that tab manually. Very strange in these days...

I just need a wheel to practice what i have learnt from my driving. Driving needs practices. I scare too long never touch the wheel after passing will become unfamiliar. How about a second hand budget car with more than 10 years of usage? I saw it from sgcarmart many budget cars for sale but don't know good or not. I also heard from my friends cars more than 10 years need to go for annual inspection which is very troublesome. Confused

But there is an annual membership fee of $100. The usage is charged in mileage. How do i know how far i have travelled? A bit troublesome. Second hand car no good??? 1.0L engine car is good enough because of cheap road tax. Old model Suzuki swift ,Nissan march and Daihatsu charade are some of old model 1.0L engine second hand car.

u can check the mileage on the car odometer.
in anycase, they will bill to ur email after every rental.
Troublesome? I dun think so...(depends on how u view it, a 'shag' pocket will be the real troublesome to me)

idea of the using car rental is...u use when u feel like practicising and u only pay when u use. Apart from membership fee there are no other hidden cost. Petrol pump for free too.

Not trying to pour cold water... You can ask those bro who owns a new car now. Even the cheapest model can eat up alot of $$ per month.

As for 2nd hand car..There is always the lemon problem. If you bought into something tt needs frequent servicing and maintanence, good luck to u.

But if u are hell set of getting a set of 4 wheels, I will say go for brand new.

I think picanto is a good cheap economical car.

I used to take Taxi during work... It's frustrating. They don't seemed to be available when you need them. Then there is the matter of weather. esp during urgency and convenience

The cost I picked up per month exceeds $700, plenty of waiting and walking.

The road tax of 1.1cc is about $400/per year (after rebate).. Insurance is the killer about $1400 without NCB. Fuel about $250-350. Parking $75 + $60, maintenence free for three years (no worries). Installments about $400/mth

So, in essence, if you travel the way I did, get the picanto. pay abit more.
For the convenience, more liesure activities and travels to more place of interest and, if you consider that it sits more people, the cost technically goes down.

If renting car to practice, seems like a waste, cause you would be practicing much. Nothing beats the feeling you developed with your car and be able to drive it at its best. Even car of same make and model feels different. Anyway, just my thought.

To threadstarter:
I wld suggest that u take up one of the other forumer's suggestion of renting car since u juz wanna practise your driving and it appears that u have quite a huge financial constraint... 400 (instalment) + 250 (average petrol consumption) + 75 (season parking) + workplace season parking + ERP + roadtax + insurance + maintenance + allowance for repairs + miscellaneous, add up will easily come to at least a thouand bucks... wats more, interest rates have risen to 3.25% for long loans... So do tink carefully =) if your finances allow, may i suggest a Getz 1.1 or Kelisa to add to your list of 1.1l and below cars...
