Some of them do pass of easily as legal based on their looks. Some local kids also get fake IDs to enter the clubs and pubs.

But I'm not drawing conclusions based solely on my observations. I have spoken with many locals and numerous relatives who teach at schools here and counselors as well and what all of them have told me is that the only 13-16 year olds who smoke go to those, forgive me for being blatant, crap schools and you wouldn't find those kind of kids in the better, private schools. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Every sch. has naughty students, more so in "N' level cos they come from dysfunctional families.
The better schools has students from more well to do families who are able to provide tuition & home support so that they are less likely to become delliquents

i would actually conclude the reason for our government's fast reaction..teens who are found smoking under legal age either get serious punishment from own family members else the police force. so that might be one of the main reasons y u dun see MANY "so-called" teens smoking out there..at times i find it surprising when u came upon a 13 yr-old guy who look like 21..so yaa..many factors misleading ur observations..and of cos..ur closest peers in terms of ur seniors/elders will definately tell/show u how "green" looks singaporeans have. Nah.. it's just that our society refuses to discuss, or admit, the severity of such problems.. If u've been in a good school all the way, the chances of you witnessing these problems is very slim. This is because our society is still highly separated by class and race despite what we claim.. and we like to keep up a certain image.

It's very easy to hide any drug / alcohol usage if u know what u're doing. Drugs and teen alcohol consumption are very common in Singapore, much more than the govt would care to admit.

In Singapore, all we do is label the whole deal to the point of superstition. You really have to go all out to find alternate information before u can get the whole picture.

Let's just say that what I've seen in the good schools, can be equally as bad, if not worse. It's just that when you waste yourselves in private parties, less people see it that's all.

Who says those who come from our premier schools are goody-two-shoes? Only those who have a romantic notion would think so. Perhaps your neighbourhood ah bengs smoke, drink and beat up people, but the "goodypants" may do much more terrible things that people do not notice, that's all. Wink

not true la..its jus a stereotype that teenage students work hard towards exam..some dun really care..some got killed by stress n gave up thier life la..stuff such as underage sex also do happen.jus tat u dun know..smoking n alcohol are also involved in some students la..it jus differs from wat school u are looking at.
