Question on studying Psychology

davidche SG

Hello, I am very interested in studying psycology in NUS. I am only sec 3 this year but as my parents are thinking whther they should be buying a house here in singapore, I need to know roughly if i am studying in Singapore. I am here to clarify if my standards are up to par.

For people who are currently studying for this degree or has already finished it, how many points did you get for your o-levels?

I know need to go through A levels!! But i havent gone to A level stage yet. So how can i roughly gauge my standards? Thru o level results....

So, back to topic

Firstly, Is a 10 points in O levels good enough to apply for the course.

Next, for people who are currently studying for this degree or has already finished it, how many points did you get for your o-levels?

alexkusu SG

wah, u need at least 22points for 0s leh

You need to do well in your O levels to qualify for Junior Collegue (A levels). Then you need to do well in your As before you can go nus. Your O level grades are not really applicapable.

My view is pick a JC in the middle, not the top JCs, not the bottom one, but ranking in the middle. You're enjoy more life then.

Cheers.

humm..psychology or psychiatry ??

they are different..the latter being harder as u need to go medicine then specialise in psychiatry...while psychology can go for a diploma in poly then a university degree...

well..actually..both are just as hard... Laughing

10 points...hum..this year cut off point for a diploma in psychology was 9...mayb if u r good enough with cca points...but on the safe side..8 points would b good.. yea..pretty much a jc pointing...

ctstalin SG

u cant gauge yr A lvl result thru yr O lvl lah Laughing

udontknowme SG

i know pple....16 points went to cjc
now 4As

i also know pple...6 points go hwachong
now no As

alfagal SG

u just need to study hard enough to get into JC.
then from there, depending on e cut of points of each cohort, apply into NUS.
do not need to be elite, but have to b abv ave results. e.g scoring an average or higher than grade C for your a's. make sure u have a credit in additional maths.

i got into JJC w 11points, grad from JJC arts stream w ave results.
i grad from NUS w psych deg.
good luck

Does every person who go hwa chong end up with no As? Listing exceptions is pointless as there will ALWAYS be exceptions to anything. I know a person invested large money to study in uni but then loses the interest in the subject. Does that mean that i shouldnt persue anything BECAUSE of this?

It is only 3 years to the A levels. My father is deciding whether we should buy a house in singapore. So i have to be sure if i can be ROUGHLY garunteed a psy degree here.

I figured the way i can roughly know this is to ask those students studying psy or have finished studying, how much points they had during O lvls. Then i can roughly(again) know if i stand a chance in psy.

davidche SG

diploma in what poly? din know poly got so high standards hahas

davidche SG

wow cool. Can i know when you graduated, cos different times have different standards. Thanks You!

davidche SG

by right psychiatrist should be harder. If i can go medicine, then psychiatry i probrably wont go for psychology. ha

Subject to the many changes to the education system of which I am not updated,
you have to do yourA levels first before you can qualify to study Psychology at the NUS in the Arts & Social Science faculty.

Since you are only in Sec 3, you should focus on geting into a junior ollege to do your A levels first. It's good, though, that you have a goal that will give you direction in your choice of studies! Very Happy

i am also interested in studying psychology and there is a course avaliable in ngee ann polytechnic.

to what i heard from my friends, this year cut off point for the psychology course is 9 points but i won't know what will the cut off point be for your year. maybe you can try to work hard now and get a diploma in that course. then maybe pursue a degree for that.

however,if you want to study psychology in nus and do not want to have a diploma in pyschology, then you will have to score well for your l1r5 and get into a jc before moving on to pursue degree in psychology.

it all depends on you now. whether to pursue degree in nus or have a diploma in psychology before moving on to pursue a degree.

all the best and mug hard.

davidche SG

cool thing.
Which one are you choosing? i think a level results will have an advantage over diplma right?
