Lots of radar are truck mobile. SG's PSTAR is one of them.

but given the current speculation of our Formidables capability, even with Aster 30 we arent able to protect against a scud level of attack right ? is the herkales capable enough ?

Hang on... if the Aster 15s were able to intercept AShMs, I don't see how they cant handle scuds...

The Aegis SPY-1D has its merits. Well supposedly its able to handle very saturated air environments, and its auto- (Monster Kill Mode ) is able to prioritise and engage all air threats.

But its real merit these days I guess, is with theatre BMD with SM-3s.

Scuds? I'd worry more about following their erratic trajectory in the first place. Those things have a nasty habit of not landing where their flight path would suggest.

In all seriousness, I believe Scuds are never used in naval battles.

in the sense of a land battle. arent our formidables supposed to extend coverage from the sea over land ? part of the SAM network ?

either way, the ships can move up the coast in tandem to support formation movement and extend a SAM umbrella over them as well.

Yeah, that's the ideal. But.. if the Asters are AMMs, I'm pretty sure they have no problem with the Scuds then.

hmm but what about Astros and their payload ? afterall, if they are unguided, they'd fly in a block / regular/ predictable trajectory right ?

This is something new, heh. Worth a thought, but... taking out unguided rockets with Asters seem a tad overkill..

Let them shoot the rockets, chances are they won't do much damage against hardened installations anyway. Kill the launcher with with our UAV-Apaches.

For astros, no problem to ID launcher as range short (<90km). For 600-700km ranged scuds, would be a bit more difficult to ID launcher location (which is the problem USAF faced in GW-1). That's why there's a lot of support for MTCR.

imho, 600-700km ranged scuds don't come cheap and it may be worthwhile to whack an Aster or hawk at it, assuming the flight path is in the danger zone. The CEP is so great (>3km), it might miss Singapore entirely depending on the aim point.

Indo had a development programme for 250km range RX-250. Then at some point in time considered scuds. They also bought the yakhont fairly recently.

There's a lot of area to cover. The Israeli experience in Lebanon recently itself gives a textbook case on how difficult it is. Also, the helicopters have to worry about enemy SAMs.

The US solution actually was to deploy B-2s to hunt down Soviet road mobile ICBMs, but yeah.

The Russians employ PESA radars on the ground that are truck mobile, as part of their S-400/S-300PMU-2 system.

The palestinians often used home-made rockets that are often one-shot short-ranged, inaccurate but fast deployable precisely cos they are aware of the rapid responses that the Israelis provided.

The astros system is not exactly a small item that can be camoflaged that easily.

It's going to be hard to locate all of them in all that urban clutter in an area that is quite large, as large as Singapore.

And UAVs are not immune to SAM attacks. The Russians shot a number of Israeli UAVs, which we happen to use, during the recent Georgian-Russian tiff.
