Why bedok no shopping mall?

I vote for park land.
I don't mind if Bedok Central keeps its current rustic charms.
Singaporean do not need more shopping, they need more time away from shopping. I see my brother-in-law's kids. All they know at age 2, is shopping. The boy had so little exercise that now at 3, he still cannot walk without tripping over (and he cries, sulks and throw tantrums all the time). This comes from sitting in prams all day when the parents takes him shopping.

I check the construction going on at the corner of New Upper Changi Road and Bedok Ave 3.
Yes it will be a Town Centre.
Kopi tiams/retail outlets on the ground floor units, and residential units above the block of flats comming up there.
Looks like no shopping mall for Bedok.

Anyway I went to Vivocity today.
It is another "been to one, been to all" shopping mall.
Its bigger yes, but all the time I was asking myself how is this different from Taka, Tampines Mall, Junction 8, Jurong Point, East Point and any other shopping point in Singapore. They all look alike inside.
So just as well Bedok has no shopping mall.

I am getting old, I will love Bedok.
When the queue at Murugan's Toto outlet is too long, I can stroll over to Geylang United to get my toto tickets.

hougang used to have one at hougang plaza, but ppl complained the bowling alley on top make a lot of noise and it closed down.

anyway, the bowling alley also closed down not soon after and now the place is LAN, pool and Kbox. Laughing

Kallang Leisure Park, the old shopping mall was demolished in mid 2005 to make way for the new one, now still under construction.

Heard that the Kallang theatre next door is closing down too. Rolling Eyes
