Fire Star SG It has six legs, 2 feelers or antenna, black head, bright red body, but black legs cannot fly nor jump, confirm not spider. Size of ant, but cannot be ant. Walk like spider but not spider.
Conner MacDermott SG I suspect you encountered a Myrmecia Desertorum, aka Bulldog Ant. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4187/1246/1600/myr.0.jpg

It dosen't look like ant, it can't climb vertically well. It's legs are too long to be an ant. Btw, anyone know what solution I can preserve it in after it dies? It may be a new species of insectoid...
Fire Star SG Also it's body is really bright red in sunlight, not dull red like red ants. I assure you if you see it first hand, you confirm say it's not ant.
erijazz SG It may be from the same family of assassin bugs; Facts Nearly 3000 species of assassin bugs exist and scientists feel that many more will be discovered. These insects can be commonly found throughout most of the world. They vary in size from a few millimeters to as much as 3 or 4 centimeters. They come in many colors and shapes and most species have two pairs of wings. However, ALL assassin bugs have a powerful, curved rostrum, or beak, that they use to pierce and suck out the tissues of their prey.
