Why not Singapore give citizenship to 10 thousand gurkhas and make them become full time SAF soldiers. So we can reduce our reservice years to half

there's no point in reducing your NSF time to half...

now 2 years is already the bare minimum to complete professional training as a soldier, to complete all the courses, if cut short further, you want to go back for 2-3 months ICT for courses?

Ghurkas are loyal to the Crown no same guaranteee to the PAP .Some Ghurkas do have sons who served NS,these guys are SIngapore born and so maybe they can fight well also>LOL

I'm beginning to agree with Short Ninja. Have you heard of the recent gurkha mutiny over pay this past week? First the Mas Selamat and now this incident do not inspire in me as much confidence in their vaunted reputation.

i thought they have no link to the army. they are under the police force right? like what specialOps said, they are hired to offer some form of security service.

i think it maybe similar to the secret service. the only thing that is different is that secret service hires people of their own to protect people of importance to the nation.

Do you have any idea at all what their pay Vs their life and training is like? Serve a bit of NS already alot of people complain too tough.

Gurkhas are the real FT doing a job singaporeans wont/cant do.
