Yes. The weight of a vehicle plays a major role in the incident as well. However I haven't had the chance to play go-karting, normally I just track my Merc (Yes I track my auto merc haha but it's more like a competitive driving course open to mid-range cars).

since im doing automotive & motorsport, this gives me an idea for a final year project. I could do a study on how much enery is required for a wheel of a fixed diameter to mount curbs of varying heights.

I'd worry less about flying if im tracking in a car. no low exposed tyres on other cars to hit and launch.

It was equipped with 17inch wheels. But more importantly, the C230's tyre did not act as a fulcrum like what happened with MX-5. That being said, I presume the MX-5's weight is a crucial point to ponder about. The fulcrum fail to flip the C230 largely due to the immense weight and height of the curb. It is only logical that by lowering the weight of the car and height of the divider, the % of a flip is increased.

Yr merc possible, higher clearance mah. Wink I just dont think MX-5 will skid so badly at 40km/h till it crosses over to the opp direction. I will go borrow a MX-5 and try Mr. Green

Higher clearance compared to MX-5? Maybe but my merc has lowered sports suspension complete with sports kit. Anyway what has clearance got to do with flipping? Clearance would have to do with mounting but not flipping considering the fact that the Mazda did not even mount the divider to start with.

I've explained why it WILL skid badly at 40km/h and why it will jump a curb. In fact clearance has nothing to do with clipping a curb n flipping or flying.

What you are trying to say that the car can flip at 40km/h because although the forward momentum (red arrow) plus reaction force from hitting the kerb (red arrow, action = reaction) will cause a resultant (blue arrow) that will cause the MX to fly because the weight of the car (green arrow) is less than the resultant force (blue arrow) hence it does not require much speed for it to fly on the kerb because the car is light

Which means blue arrow (resultant force of forward speed + reaction force from kerb) > green arrow (weight of the car). Is that right?

Do suspensions help when a car hit the kerb? They are meant to absorb shocks, right? Surprised

Suspension is required to keep wheels in contact with the ground. They don't work like the ones on the train when trains bump lightly into one another.

i thought suspension keeps the car body 'floating' on the wheels.

Thr primary tasks of wheels on a car is to transmit power to the ground so as to propel the car. Thus, to keep the wheels in constant contact with the ground, your suspension does exactly that. Imagine your car going over uneven surfaces without suspension, you might have 2 wheels with no contact with the ground while going full rev, then imagine the instantaneous moment when those 2 wheels touch the ground again. Not very nice.

the Simulators in SAF are USELESS.....Been there,done that and it was a TOTAL waste of time...veh dynamics etc and its nt real lo....in fact it can make u have motion sickness...

just suddenly remembered this incident and would like to share with u guys. was on my way attending a case abt 2 yrs back..was in my police vehicle with the blinkers on..so this lorry, travelling on the left lane spotted me & shifted close to the kerb for me to pass. my police vehicle was travelling abt 60km/hr & the lorry in front was probably 70km/hr or slightly more. to my horror, it has its rear wheel hitting & brushing the left kerb! despite its relative high CG(its lorry with those high shelter & unloaded), it didn’t topple, “flipped” or mount towards the side kerb. so tell me, how the mx5, low CG & “not” speeding(within speed limit of 50km/r) could haf mount the centre divider & flew at a high of the on-coming bmw’s bonnet?

SO what if he thought the "accused" on how to drift at low speeds? So what if he did not?

So what if he introduced the SE to them or vice versa? So what if he did not?

Does it really matter? will it help prevent this uncalled for tragedy? Will continue hauling accusations get justice done?

If not, let's all just move on with our own lives.
