Sometimes one has to take the excessive nationalistic Indian
press (and Wikipedia entries) with a grain or 2 of salt. I recall
recently on another thread
(http://www.strategypage.com/militaryforums/72-20001.aspx) that
Arjun will not be operational for a while. The Indians have
recently bought up to 1,000 T-90s (local production), which means
Arjun is:
1. Inferior to T-90 (?)
2. Not operational or cannot be mass produced for some
reason.
I do not imply any negative bias on the Arjun (or any Indian
equipment/product), but my take on this MBT project is it is a
white elephant - it has sucked up so much funds and not produced a
substantiative tank that can go into production. Perhaps it's a
case of misplaced nationalistic pride (not to cancel it) - the
money could have been spent acquiring a better foreign-made tank.
