NUS or NTU better?

Okie, helping one of my students to ask her question here Mr. Green

She is thinking of furthering her studies in business course in Singapore. She has been offered a place in NUS, and is asked to go for an interview for admission by NTU this coming Friday. She is not sure which one she should choose, because different people have told her different things about both universities.

So she wans to know whether NUS or NTU is better in terms of its environment, ranking, future career, etc. Would appreciate any comment and opinion from especially those who have taken a business course (esp accountancy/finance) in either university. Thanks Very Happy

I've only seen NTU business course notes, so I can't comment much on which is better, but I'm biased towards NTU. lol Laughing

But if she really goes to NTU, better live somewhere close to NTU or better still, stay in NTU. Because NTU is really far. I nearly vomited while traveling to NTU.

Environment wise, good place, if you love the stars, that is. People there are quite friendly, but I can't say for all.

Ranking? Worse than NUS.

Future looks great for a business graduate.

If she does well... as I've not seen NUS business course notes, so I can't comment. Neither do any of my family members graduated from NUS either. Laughing

Looking at NTU course notes, I would say it's rather good. The students learn a lot of things besides accountancy/financial stuff. Some business stuffs are being learnt as well.

NTU hostel is not easy to get. Competition is very stiff.

she is attending the interview a day before her ielts exam. how difficult is it to travel to NTU? can take MRT? or need to change bus/train a few times that kind?

If it is just a general business course, then go for NUS. NUS brand name these days can go a long way and perhaps an even longer way in future.

However, if you are thinking towards an accountancy degree, then no question for NTU. It has a strong, proven track record in that area of specialty.

In truth, why isn't SMU a choice? It is hyped up and over beyond reason by the government. This has potential, continual spillover effects in the private sector, both local and overseas.

Travel route must ask other people, because I'm quite dumb on that.

I know of one route if she's from JB...

Assuming she's taking the bus from JB to Woodlands... she will take a train from Woodlands to Jurong East, then transfer to the East West Line, towards Boon Lay. She will alight at Boon Lay station, then take bus no. 179.

SMU to me is like a business school.

I couldn't find a course without a business module being compulsory.
