I think it is more for the rare-ness lah...M6 got money who also
can buy but the CLK GTM only 100 produced, 1/3 right hand drive, so
30+ RHD and you are owning one of them. The CLK GTM got money next
time also might not be able to buy it. I think that justify the $1
million spent.
But given a choice, I still get the M6 which cost half the price
and probably as fun to drive. 
How bad can a top of the M series from BMW gets...it probably just
get better and better.
