turbocharging a type S is not entirely without its merits. to
begin with, the K20A3 engine has lower compression, less aggressive
cam profiles and lower powerband. characteristics much akin to the
turboed engines of late.
problem is the total cost of ownership and legal risks involved.
while honda engines have often been described as "bullet proof" in
the automotive industry, turbocharging itself adds a whole load of
stress on the engine internals. not only are u changing the entire
volumetric efficiency of an engine dat was built for NA
applications, u also incur all sorts of hidden costs in terms of
maintenance (worn out clutch, gearings driveshafts) and reliability
(engine blowing after sustained boost).
trust me. it took almost half a decade after top fuel successfully
created a 550 ps VTEC + turbo B series engine before local boys
were able to run similar engines without blowing an engine along
the way.
can u live with the risks of getting caught ($500 fine at
least) or blowing an engine?
