well im interested too, but the moment my teacher asked me whats the reason i wanna be a teacher i stoned in front of her...

hmmm either way is good to enter the NIE degree course but my poly gpa 2.35 niaaaa... Sad now my teacher suggested i take another course n take the 1year postgraduate course from NIE... at worst go overseas... btw yea we'll be sponsored as well, but must serve bond la... Confused

cos i love interacting with students. i love school life although sometimes it could be dreadful but the moment you graduate, you'll find it memorable. when the whole class laughed together with the teacher etc. so i want to be in school life forever. Smile

Advise you to go to Uni before applying for NIE to be a teacher. Fact is you need a degree or you really can’t go far. If fresh out of JC/Poly, your odds of being accepted for the NIE is very low and even then, after you finish, the prospects are not very good also.

Interacting with students when you are a student yourself is a fcuking different thing than interacting with students as a teacher.

Have you seen teachers cry and have a mental breakdown at the teachers' lounge because they couldn't control their students?

i m currently teaching in a private school...

why wanna teach ah...prolly cos i realize that last time, i didnt get much help from my teachers during my studying time, and there were times when I feel really helpless...so want to be a teacher to help the students when they are feeling helpless in their studies...

of cos teaching is not an easy job, you really do need to know how to be patient and also interact with the students...

There is nothing a teacher could do if a student refuses to learn.A teacher has to learn how to help a student teach himself/herself.I have seen a whole class going into an out of body experience and this is not a Yoga class but an English class taught by an old fashioned boring teacher with a tranquilizer voice.

yea, the least the teacher can do is to make the class at least interesting and the things that the students learn interesting. so i always try to include some activities of some sort during my lessons. even though it is not required, but seeing the students enjoying the activities more than make up for all the hard work i have put in to organize those...

maybe one advice i can give to ppl who aspire to be a teacher...follow the syllabus but see what extra activities you can come up with that match the syllabus...for example, when my students learning about how to conduct interviews, i let them have a mock interview session....this will make your students feel closer to you and also closer to each other...

teaching must be your passion or you will not be able to last long. OR you bo chap and last very long...

if you bo chap, then your students suffer, if it is not your passion, you need not suffer, you can resign...

hello, statements like "most important we must let the students like us" and "no problem with the primary school kids. secondary school students are more rebellious" are IMHO very shallow... I hope you "deepen" your thinking for the sake of your future students.

It is getting more competitive- My daughter met 2 MOE scholars in uni, one has 3As, another 4As.

Try applying for relief teaching to get some experience.
Go to MOE website & read up on the requirements. Basically u must major in teaching subjects like Econs, Physics, Maths, Geog, History, Lit etc in the U.

What have your class been doing the rest of the time? A teacher should know when to speed up and when to slow down when covering the texbook now last minute kalang kabut for what?

Firstly, I have to say that my class discipline is not the best lah, I'd say we're a bunch of people that like to fool and joke around. And most assuredly I tell you, we've paid a heavy price for it. So we might be slower because the teacher needs to ask us to shuddup. Secondly, I think we're the pioneer batch for the JC mono intake. So the Os are coming some what earlier this year for us. SO thats that.

I dont know how NIE chooses its candidates..

MOE/NIE sends future art teachers to my school for courses.
And the students attend both schools at the same time as a co-op time table..

i know some of them and i cant believe how they are going to be teachers in a few years time. Laughing
