Seems like the RAF prefer “box” deployments, while the Russians and Chinese prefer “Stars.”

many will remember "mickey mouse hill" behind Poyang with its Type 86 Radar on top.

Those who never saw the 'other side' won't know what I am on about...

Singapore's RSAF Bloodhound Mk II which were in RAF in SG in the 60s were bought over by RSAF in 1970 and operated by RSAF's 170 sqn, they were later retired in the 90s.

Here one in the Air Force Museum :

and here another during it's heydays:

( Notice the old RSAF logo on the missiles )

tripwire SG

those were ours.... not malaysia's...

our bloodhound has been decommissioned... last i heard... we have transfered them to the burmese.... though i bet that malaysia must be drooling like a hungry wolf when they see those missiles sailing pass them.... Mr. Green

there was a time... when singapore I-hawk were also deployed as part of FPDA... but i not sure if we still deploy them in butterworth.... frankly in my opinion... waste time only.... Confused

Gooseliver SG

They were based in Seletar East camp. During the early 70s, they could be seen along the fringes of old Ang Moh Quee camp along old Yio Chu Kang road and
hidden in secret location inside SAB. During Indonesia confrontation, they were the main defender of our sky and were placed at the end of Seletar runway facing directly Pasir Gudang

They were very active during SADC time and decommissioned in the late 70s/early 80s.

Doubt they were transferred to the Burmese... maybe smelted away

Shotgun SG

Woo... looks exactly like those SA-2 sites I like to drop CBUs on. Ha! Those clear patches give their site away man.

In periods of tension, they will probably cover it with camo nets to blend in.....

Yeah.. i remember the good old days of Bloodhound.. i was from AJC... actually from my JC days, i remember looking acorss and you can see the director radar as well as the pointed tip of the bloodhound.... 170 SQN if i remember correctly... yeah.. at that time that was the longest range SAM we have..... supposed to be replaced by Patriots, but i guess it didn't materialize.

Shotgun SG

I think currently the longest range SAM we have are iHawks (NOT related to APPLE range of I-products). I'm not sure if we got the phase array radar upgrade or not.

Guardx SG

Bloodhound SAM are too old tech liao.
We have ways to counter them but it is listed under secret.

tankfanatic SG

i sniff around…and found out the boodhound in butterworth were the aussies… if you look at the google map ..the missile were gone already…some dud recognise it because the bloodhound were always arranged in the same way.

chino65 SG

I was about to ask the same.

How can you possibly tell from looking at such a TINY aerial photo and confirm those to be SAM sites - and specifically - Bloodhounds???

Shotgun SG

Static SAM launcher positions usually look like patterns on the ground.

Theres quite a bunch of ways to deploy them. You can check out more Satellite images of SAM positions here.

chino65 SG

OK, how many of those sites actually contain a weapon?

And what signs caused you to confirm them to be Bloodhounds?

Shotgun SG

LOL! I didn’t confirm them to be bloodhounds. But they looked like SAM sites to me.

tankfanatic SG

mmmmm that sound scary…. ill search around to confirm it….....what if its not bloodhound?...yet modern SAM were not fixed like that.

tankfanatic SG
