Yup, I keep them in a watch winder. here's a crappy pic of it - I'll have to take a better shot of it some time.

Nope, but I know a few guys who got them and threw them away. The weak point is the springbars - they give way too easily. Apart from the funny gas capsult thing, there's nothing special about them.

For a basic watch that'll take the abuse, try a Seiko diver's watch. A bit further upmarket is Marathon - much better value than Luminox.

Mine broke on me, use it for about a year and the joint the hold the band broke! cannot be repaired!

Yup, the watch isn't any good if it's not going to stay on your wrist. Compare the Luminox to real military issue watches like the milspec Rolex Submariner - the Sub's solid springbars are welded to the lugs so there's zero chance of them coming off, and when it's on the proper NATO strap, even if one of the strap's loops arounf the springbars gives way, the other still holds the watch in place.

I seriously doubt that the Luminox would pass the testing that the Royal Navy used on the Sub in the 1960s.

I am not from CDO or equivalent "tough" vocation. But I found that if you have a light weight watch, it will survive bashing quite a lot.

During reservist, I used a Swatch diver's watch. The fact that it was light weight means it can stand a lot of g-shock. And the fact that it was waterproof to 25m helps in normal infantryman's water crossing, wading in sea...etc etc. It also has a large luminous face which helps at night.

The problem with a heavy complex watch is that it will not stand g-forces if it was not properly designed for it. Worse still if it is an automatic ( not a light quartz mechanism).

Afterall, a second hand Swatch on eBay now costs about $50. So if it breaks, get another.

Emphatically disagree. This baby survived everything two and a half years of CDO training could throw at it:

It happily survived leopard crawling through gravel, stopped a bayonet, spent days exposed to seawater and kept soldiering on while neighbouring G-Shocks had an average life span of about three months. At this very moment, it's still ticking merrily away on my watch winder.

luminox...alot of hype la.....damn cb one...flimsy strap....price dont justify its ability

i use a Victorinox Swiss Army Infantry....tougher than luminox.....makes for a good dress watch too...

luminox is a waste of money

Same story with my Seiko diver's watch. Mine was a "boy" size.

I've had it for 20 years and I wore it for all my ICT, BCT etc. Once while running the watch hit something so hard that the metal link chain snapped. I replaced it with a cheap canvas strap and yes, it is still working with absolutely so problem.

One problem was the rotatable dial. It got stuck less than 2 years after I bought it. But the rest of it works fine and is a tough SOB of a watch.

Yeah I still have my seiko diver watch after 30 years but it is broken now,you could take it anywhere under any weather and It’s reliable.

Nowadays? I served from 1990-1993. I had it on a black velcro strap with a flap to cover the dial during BMT, and after that I had it on a black rubber strap.

They may have improved the construction these days, but back then the rubber casing wouldn't hold up to the treatment. once that rubber casing fell off, the rest of the watch was toast.

I odn't know about watches, but tactically I would go for a cheap $5 plastic watch you find at pasar malams.

$5-you break, buy another. And it is hard to imagine those watches would break, honestly.

Also, no reflections to give your position away to others.

Anyway, that said, I used my own metal watch Mr. Green
