I agree with you completely.

But unfortunately, the reality is that a place like Indonesia will never be well-governed, If tthe government of today falls, the next government will be equally ruthless - be they Islamic, Javanese or Acehnese etc.

It is funny as most of these SE Asian peoples had empires going back more than a thousand years like the Cambodians, Javanese, Siam etc yet today, they are still medieval in many ways.

What I am trying to say is that, with Indonesia at least, maybe our government is right in supporting them. (Though this is contrary to what I said earlier.)

The current Indo government is still relatively " moderate " and enjoys a certain amount of popular support. If they fall by violent means, the next government that rises in its place will definitely be worst.

But Burma is a different case.

Wrong.

If you read history, all prolonged wars spread to neighbours one way or another.

Even if it doesn't, the next government of Indon borne out of warfare would surely be an extremist one. And we lose a source of trade at best, or they export their extremism in a worst case scenario like Sukarno.

We have been building a strong relationship with the Indonesian Armed forces (TNI ) and It dates back awhile since Suharto ascending to power. We need to parlay, carry balls and be extremely friendly to the Indons generals. If Indonesia ever goes into turmoil or the government have radical Ideas tantamount to SG interest or Islamic Jihads influence, we can rely on these friendly secular generals to put it down for us.

Also an unfriendly Indonesia with its huge population and resources is not good for SG. A corrupted Indonesia is easily influenced. Divide and rule with money. A United Indonesia and It spells doom for Singapore. Also the Indons army is battle hardened and our SAF will have a tough time with them than the Malaysians.

Saying goes Keep your enemy near you.

and BTW Malaysia is lesser of the two evil.

So no choice but must train with TNI and give Indons generals big bonus and free planes

if the Indons attack, I say we overwhelm them and then re-populate Indonesia with foreign talent from India and China.

And give Independence to Aceh, Ambon,Papua.......

trained with them last year at java...good soldiering skills...experienced...although their older soldiers are not as fit..

do u noe that their BMT graduation march is 100km?

and their Kostrad POP graduation march is 300oddish km in the mountains of central Java?

Ya know I'm an Indonesian I was mad seeing this thread's topic but when I saw the pictures.....

Well at least those pictures more likely presents a different regime back in the 1990s. With Human rights activist Munir poisoned to death just a couple year ago.....maybe not.
