Looks like theres a manhunt on. Not for someone who went AWOL from camp with a SAR-21, but someone more inspirational.

From his research, Mr Boey reckons that the soldier should be in his early 40s, and served in either the Charlie Company of the 1st Guards Battalion, or the Infantry Training Depot.

And based on what is discernible from the photograph, his surname could be 'Liew' or 'Lien'.

All the best to Mr Boey in his search for this iconic soldier.

The book, Defending Singapore: The Singapore Armed Forces, is due out next year. It will go beyond describing the SAF's structure and war machines.

It will also examine Singapore's defence science and industrial capabilities, and bigger issues such as defence policies and threat environment.

I still have Mickey Chiang’s book on the SAF though its very outdated by now. Those were the days of the AR-15, AMX-13 (no SM1 yet), etc.

There was also a SAF thick coffee book commemorating the 30th anniversary of NS - came out in 1997 i think. That is also very outdated by now.

Don't worry it won't be expensive. I'm not doing this to make money.

I do plan to recoup the printing cost, which isn't much for those of you who know something about print runs and book production.

btw, it isn't a coffee table book so don't expect pages and pages of colourful pictures.

Thats great! Because there are already plenty of coffee table books with lots of pictures around. I am hoping to see a book with local insight into the SAF, sort of like a local version of the book, ' Defending the Lion City' by Dr Tim Huxely. Very Happy

I saw book while passing by MPH this morning. Lime green cover with the mobilization logo at the front. Is that your book, CJ? (It was early in the morning, couldn’t pop in for a look-see as they were still doing some vacuum cleaning.)
