SINGAPORE: An armed SAF National Serviceman was caught in Orchard Road at 8pm on Monday, 19 hours after he had gone missing from camp.

Police said the 20-year-old went missing at 11.59pm on Sunday from the Mandai Hill Camp, with a rifle and some ammunition issued by the army.

200 officers mounted a manhunt and police found him near Orchard Cineleisure.

They also recovered the missing rifle and ammunition and will investigate the case under the Arm Offences Act.

The Ministry of Defence has identified the NSman as Corporal Dave Teo Ming.

Mindef said he had been given the rifle and ammunition for guard duty.

He is an infantry rifleman from the First Battalion at the Singapore Infantry Regiment.

Corporal Teo was enlisted in the army in September 2005 and will finish his national service with the army next month. - CNA/ir

Manhunt? Those CCTVs around the island are very effective in police/security work.

What a waste of his entire life!!.........a moment of madness [taking the rifle and ammmo outta camp] just to impress someone about whatever and his entire lilfe goes kaput!!

Whatever future he has planned for has just gone up in smoke. So silly and so dumb Confused

I wonder what will happen after this incident....no more armed prowlers? Very Happy

Seriously, this incident is a terrible disgrace to SAF, have to wait and see what is going to happen to him.

Obvious there been a breach of rules at the unit !!!

Prowlers - patrolling guards - are alway in pair - for security and safety reason, also they are issue rifle & ammo & walk-takies only when they are on patrol.... or guarding the gate. The question is the moment that guy try to take off, obviously he have time to get change, hide the rifle in a bag or something .... which will take time - why the guard sergent of guard room, did not know that a guard have become missing...

Idle_King SG

Loaded Prowler magazines are also black and empty Laughing
i think all this chap needed to do, according to someone from the other thread was bring his duffel along when he went on duty, when no one was looking place rifle in it, then calmly walk out of camp and take a bus or taxi. Harmless looking NS men in No.4 hardly attract attention on public transports...

not plastics ammo ar?dam..wonder wat is he up to man…mayb kill his ex…lol

lmao this guy is seriously military nuts.

mrwonderful SG

???

most likely he was a sentry. some of them work alone at gates and he can just take the opportunity the Guard Comm leave the gate open after admitting it ppl then sneak out.

Guard Comms also blur and also human want to slack what. so never pay attention. guy just come out of gate throw his gun in a bag then in 5 mins grab a cab and rush to orchard road in time for midnight showing of bourne ultimatium

Shotgun SG

Wait. I thought before a guard can go off, he must attend some last parade or staff parade first? Before then, shouldn't ammo be signed back in already?

I can't remember liao, its been ages since i did any guard duty!

ditzy SG

Tsk tsk tsk, lapse again, that means more rules and regulations coming up, reservist going to get tougher and it starts at the front gate. Laughing

SingaporeTyrannosaur SG

I think the Guard Comm sure sign until zialat zialat loh.

But come to think of it, it's not really difficult to leave the camp if you are a prowler or sentry... you have a 2 hour window to chut all kind of pattern... climb fence, walk out, or all kinds of things. If you know the system from within you can do a lot of things.

I wonder what does lionnoisy have to say about this?

FireAndHell SG

You obviously have not served in NSF before!! All Prowlers and gate guard are issued with live ammo.

Maybe they screwed up by allowing only one gate guard to be stationed. Usually there's 2 guards for security reasons. Maybe this time the other guard tuang, sneak to take a nap. Like that, the other guard sure kena too!!

Idle_King SG

I thought the Prowlers(im assuming the ppl at changi airport are also prowlers) loaded mags are black and empty, but they have live ammo in their pouches, 3 rounds in each translucent mag (SAR21) iirc... Shoot to intimidate, shoot to disable, shoot to kill .

chino65 SG

Depending on the camp. Most of the time only one gate sentry cos it is always near the guard room where all the other guards and guard commander are resting.

Prowler definitely 2.
