Tiok-Lah! Thanks for the memories......

What kind of tiger stripes? The aggressor units used to wear tiger stripe uniforms but has since been changed.
Police units (including the Gurkhas) are known to use the British DPM tropical uniforms.
Then again, there are the odd units with their own uniforms as well........unless the SAF decide to go back to wearing the original first generation camo uniforms.

I even heard they are changing to the new Digital Camo for SAF!

Shotgun SG

Not so soon I think.

Yeah, the uniforms i saw on Tekong that day resemble the British No.8s.

So they were ghurkas?? They look really very chinese to me, and I could have sworn I saw a woman too!

LazerLordz SG

heard from before I ORDed till now. Laughing

Yes, generally Nepalese have 2 looks, one is a more Chinese look and the other a more Indian look. This is due to Nepal being sandwiched between these two huge countries. And the Gurkhas are those which look more like Chinese with a good tan. Very Happy

ATEC OPFOR is now wearing standard SAF No.4 with green armband and M-16s. We have a running joke in the Coy… How do we spot our enemies? They use SAR21s.

I wonder what was the reason the OPFOR wore tiger stripes back in the past and not today? I mea the OPFOR in ATEC most of the time dun look much different from normal SAF troops, even their gear also the same. I remember during one of the EX the ADF guys act as our enemy, dunno do they still practise this….......

acwire_2125 SG

Dun mind me asking, but wad’s OPFOR?

OPposing FOrce

people that fight against units that are going for ATEC.

I thought its because the tiger strips were old stocks of early SAF camo, just like the older plain green uniforms, so its issued to "enemy" units.
By now, the old uniforms should no longer be fit for use, hence the change back to the normal no.4 uniforms.

I had a regular police friend years ago - he wore the British DPM uniform while undergoing trials and training (in Tekong) for the UN peacekeeping mission to Cambodia. So I assume its part of the police "field" uniform.

Shotgun SG

Hmm makes sense. Do they have to learn contact drills and stuff as well? THey looked pretty geared up. Webbing, full pack and all. I thought they were foreign soldiers at first.

Once at Ubin I saw a 3 teenagers wearing non-SAF camo pants, boots and backpack. They look Malay, dark complexioned. Some wore T-shirts, some were shirtless but all wore SBO which weren't SAF. Their hair were close cropped.

At first I thought they were a couple of mat rockers going camping in Ubin.

Then I bumped into more of the same. Very bad uniform discipline and very co.cky look on their faces.

Then it occurred to me - Gurkha trainees.

Shotgun SG

Why on earth would mat rockers be in camou pants, sbo, and backpack? ANd in Ubin??

I would have thot they were some over zealous NCC kids.

tankee1981 SG

Thats new! I have never heard about this before...anyone else have similar experience as well? Very Happy

I met another group of teenage Gurkha trainees in the MacRitchie forests when I was hiking. These wore mufti - t-shirts and No4 pants and boots. These were also unarmed but no SBO.

Their instructor was also a gurkha in his mid-20's - very co.cky and was trying to look intimidating.

The embarrassing thing was that on this hike I also met some SAF NSFs trainig with full combat gear. While the Gurkhas marched in silent order, our SAF men were shouting to each, laughing and making a complete fool of themselves.

Fu.cking absence of discipline. I felt ashamed.
