Quietly GrabTaxi app now has a new option and it’s named GrabHitch.
Aptly called, the new option currently in beta allows anyone to
hitch a ride (as a passenger) or accept a hitch request (sign
up as a driver).
The new hitch-a-ride option means
GrabTaxi is pushing their mobile app to become a real ride-sharing
app compared to similar services such as Uber, which only allow
taxi or hired drivers to accept ride requests.
The cost of hitching a ride is another reason why it might take off
since it’s just $6 per ride now for your preferred scheduled route
although this could change to a distance-based fare in the future
once it takes off. Drivers who too get on that same route can
accept requests and then earn a cut sent to their GrabHitch
driver’s account.
According to GrabHitch FAQs, the service is perfectly legal and in
accordance with local regulations since LTA has made it possible
for drivers to be compensated for providing carpooling services
from March 2015 onwards.
