Stopping by the road when they forget the ERP cashcard

Are people still doing that?

This morning my colleague told me he forgot to put the cashcard prior to entering into the ERP zone, for 3 consecutive days. He's a new driver.

It brings me to wonder if people are still stopping by road sides suddenly to put in their cashcard.

I think the perfect solution would be to have stations that allow for ERP payments in case people genuinely forget. It's much safer than stopping in the middle of traffic.

the reason why we installed ERP is also to get rid of unneccesary stuffs... like a manned station...

Not manned stations. They can reuse stations like the SAMS machine or the other machine that's blue in colour.

ERP ish actually taking over the area licensing system to reduce traffic flow into the city, becos when people need to pay, they would just dun go in there unless necessery. the government oso got intro the park and ride scheme....just park outside the CBD and take bus in- when 60 people wanna go in, there would be 60 cars, if 60 ppl go into one bus, onli got one vehicle...tht's why they need the ERP
to further manage the traffic flow in singapore, the vehicle quota system ish intro...

Yes, there's still a handful I believe cause these people will remove the cashcard when they are out of ERP zones.

However, my friends prefer to put them when they're at traffic lights in order not to be a hazard to other drivers.

There was a case of a chain collision due to that. A lancer hit the car in front that jam braked coz forgot to put the cashcard, then a female motorcyclist hit the lancer and flew. Fortunately she lived to tell the tale.

Why don’t they just have a system that mails you a bill to pay if you don’t have a cashcard. Why bother to fine them anyway..

Yep in melbourne - they have a super system , which you can call a telephone line when you forget with the next 24 hrs , just give them the licence plate and your name and credit card number and you be bill a normal rate,.

They do have such a system. You only play the original amount you are supposed to pay at the ERP and an additional 10 bucks for administrative costs.

What the authorities should do, is to include a small segment in the Driving Schools sylabus on teaching New Drivers WHAT to do and what NOT to do in the event one forgets the ERP card. This way, we have less idiots slamming their brakes in the middle of the road!!!

It takes an experienced driver to instinctively know HOW to react when one realizes the card is not in the IU; 1) pass through and get a penalty when there is traffic behind and on both sides, 2) quickly and safely filter to shoulder and stop with hazard lights deployed, 3) check to see if ERP gantry is active at least 100 meters away so that you have time to do something SAFE.

What I cannot condone are those idiots who have their cards in the IU and purposely stops by the roadside or shoulder of expressway to wait of time out! I mean, if you cannot afford $1.00 or $0.50 ERP charges, don't farking drive!!!

There are people who cannot make decisions.

My idea removes that decision making process for them.
