because every child is unique, and every parent has the right to parent, and do a good job, w/o interference.

U need to discipline from young.
Lay down the rules early. Check bad behaviour. Tell them u will not stand for rudeness etc

If the kid is young, it is ok to spank if they do something wrong.
Another way is to make them stand in a corner.
Let them know why they are being punished.

For teens- no point using the cane.
U can discipline by deducting their pocket money, limiting computer time & confiscating their handphones.

Don't forget to also compliment & reward good behaviour.

Agree. Caning is needed for some kids who can't be reasoned with...before they turned into super brats!

Yesterday I was at parkway parade hor then this little kid with itchy hands put her arm behind the auto doors. As expected the doors opened and kiap her arm, then she started crying out not in pain but most prob coz her arm got stuck. Her mom thought she was just trying to get attention by crying out loud. But I saw what was happening since I was exiting, and stopped to push the door back and another passer by came by to free the kid's arm. Laughing

The mom had no idea what had happened, but I reckon the kid wouldn't have got her arm kiap if her mom kept her closer in tow. Reminds me of the time when I was a kid and I got my fingers kiap between the lift door, and I had to wait for the doors to close so I could release it. Nowadays no such things happen coz its a requirement to have minimum gap and 2 doors instead of one. Laughing

some parents need more disciplining than the kids.
or in some cases...both are also in desperate need of discipline...

but on this topic, i agree with missqi.
its all up to the parent.

if he/she/they do a bad job, the kids can blame them if they want when they grow up or whatever...

when they reach the stage where reason cannot be talked into them, it's the fault of the parents for not bringing up their child properly.

you see kids running about in the MRT. most parents would just tell them to stop it. but how often do you see parents reasoning with them? telling them why is it inappropriate to run about in the MRT.

but i agree with the last part. one should not cane their kids out of anger.

actually i'm only against severe caning/whacking of kids.

i call it the kid being smart to prevent his bottom from getting whacked.

first time round he goes off the hook. one more time he's getting whacked. i'm not going to waste time sending a kid to face the wall.

well, get used to it.

if the kid has to be severely caned, then the kid deserves it.

i got that treatment, i think back and i deserved it. different kids, different ways to handle.

if u get a "yes man" kid, of course u don't have to whack him.

u get a rebel, what are u gonna do? smack him gently on his backside and counsel him? maybe that's your way of doing things but not with me.

in my opinion:

there are many ways of disciplining, canes are just one physically way to discipline child.

one can be counselled, when i say counselling, it does not include scolding, questioning, defamation of child or any physical punishment. i would rather the child be convinced rather than hating u but behaving well.....
teach them. nurture them.

Does not work for me.
My mum used to cane me. Now she dun wan cane liao.
Cause whenever she take out cane. I will go infront of her tell her.
"Come cane me, its only physical."
Then i will bite myself until i bleed after she cane me.
Your parents see liao heart pain then they wont cane you again. So easy.
