ditzy SG Its due to the not so well documented phenomenon known as the Mpemba effect. Hot water will freeze first. Its also interesting to note that water that has been boiled before will freeze faster than regular water.

MohamedF SG Any type of cup will break... water at the top of the cup will freeze 1st... that causes the rest of the water to be enclosed in the cup... and since water can be 2x its size as a solid, the enclosed space will build up pressure and it will break...
