Well, I was involved in a small scale (singapore perspective)
exercise in Taiwan in the middle of Dec. It was like 8 degrees
Celsius when we out in the field and we were out for 2 weeks. We
were supplied with ROC winter jackets and padded sleeping bags but
sleeping in those on cold steel vehicle floors was really bad...
our detachment of 3 men actually had to sleep closely to use each
others' body heat (but not that closely ....
).
Ration wise was good at the FU area... hot porridge with fried buns
*like those for chilli crab...but once in the field, you boil water
and heat up "bian dan" to eat. After a while the yucky japanese
curry type of bian dan was the worse of the lot. But then again,
all this was like in 1991 ... more than 15 years ago.
