LOL! The bugger COULDN’T HEAR an TANKER above them? So much for Japanese Sonar capabilities…. Never check their High-frequency sonar either? Never check periscope? What, they kena attack by Giant squid or something?

beavan SG

godzilla arrives

chillycraps SG

or busy watching hentai…

fudgester SG

Hmm... according to the article, it only detected the tanker while it was surfacing.

Can depth affect the sonar capabilities of the sub?

beavan SG

yes but not that badly

Shotgun SG

Chances are, it was surfacing somewhere it wasn’t supposed to surface. Perhaps where the traffic is too heavy, and it shouldnt’ have surfaced there.

Marco_Simone SG

AV more likely... Laughing

Heh, Can imagine a another sub tracking the Japanese submarine.

Sonar Officer: "Sonar contact Sierra -29 emitting..... female moaning noises on bearing 000. Contact now classified as Japanese Self Defence Force Submarine."

Captain: "Noted. Set course, 000, all ahead 2/3. Chief of the watch, please patch it through over the 1MC. I'll be in my cabin." =D

I think our RSN will have a bigger problem with civilian ships as compared to the Japanese due to the heavy civilian shipping and shallower waters in our part of the world. I hope such accidents will never happen to our submarines.

beavan SG

i sincerely doubt it will happen. i trust our sailors.

seancannot SG

forgotten our patrol craft clash with tanker and 4 lady sailor killed???

and we pride ourself as world best small navy

Shotgun SG

I've heard from some mates of mine that our Navy guys are actually not as disciplined as their Air and Ground counter parts. Whether that affects professionalism or not, I leave it to u guys to decide.

The RSS Courageous incident reminds us that our ships are only as good as the people in it. It doesn't matter how formidable our RSS Formidable is, or how deadly silent our submarines are if the people on board are not serious about their work.
