I think we should not be led by the nose by our govt controlled media. The news on ST are some times twisted and sensationalised to make the reading percentage of our papers to increase. Just look at ST it is slowly turning into a paparazzi newspaper.

From wad I noe, our ATEC opfor is slowly putting in new elements and subjects to test the readiness of our troops in the new age of warfare. For example, some ppls may be tasked to act as looters, some as innocent civilians some may even act as militia during ATEC to test ur response. I strongly believe that the clip has been taken during such ops training and deliberately sensationalise by our media to put the army in the hot spot. During my ATEC, they did simulate a platoon size of civi wearing ppls shouting and rioting at an axis of the road in the 'battle ground' The RP is tasked to block them and prevent entry. Suddenly, they simulate 2 guys taking a ET stick charging at the RP, THUS THE RP SHOT BACK AT THEM, THE SAME WAY AS SEEN ON THE CLIP.

So I strongly believe it is a training........

The guy charging with the ET stick, is doing something similar in a video I watched once, at the end of my spec course, it was on base security and field security.

Well, you will never noe, long time ago during a reservist training , the trainer asked the whole platoon to check clear our issued weapons before training on the first day in the field, one of our guys did not really check and one blank fired off when he squeezed the trigger, perhaps there was one blank in the mag that he did not noticed.

So sometime co<kup do happen, when someone in the previous day did not do the SOP but luckily the trainer of the day did.

I think they are starting to introduce more realistic elements into our ATEC evaluation. For example, in Fallujah, the Americans after toppling Saddam are slowly bogged down, ironically by the civilians. War is not abt soldiers only. Thus they add in distraughted civilians, angry mobs and civilians wondering around scavenging for food! They evn set up tentages to act as mosques or temples to test whether you noe how to handle militias hiding among civilians. Frankly, dealing with these 'civilains' is worst than dealing with the aggressors.

I think ST must investigate carefully first then put up the story. Bcos any one can upload the pics and slap on a caption.

In the past, such training for pacification of local elements, were limited to Civil Military Affairs battalion.

Then you had the Abu Ghraib incident, where National Guard MPs had no prior training in prisoner handling and non-combat pacification operations.

ATEC is the best testbed for introducing unconventional non-combat scenarios which involve semi-police work like crowd control and quelling unrest.

Seriously, this article is an example of swaying and misdirecting people away from the real issues; which is the disciplinary problems that might lead to breaches of security.

Not to mention the misquotes, and leading the readers to believe that youtube is full of such videos when its just 2 or 3 black sheeps.

Wth man. Report facts, not fiction. Don't construct the information in such a way that misleads them from the truth. I read foreign news articles and compared it against that article. It seems that ST articles like to form the own opinions and shove it down reader's throats.

Seriously speak, we don't need reporting journalists to feed us their "swayed" opinions. We just need the facts and let our brains do its own work. (Excluding Analysis.)

Trust me, every newspaper around the world forms their own opinions. It isn't limited to ST.

It is just that ST is in such a position that they must lick the regime's boots. By highlighting those videos, it has galvanised the powers that be into acting firmly. I won't be surprised if TCH sent Jeremy Auyong a "thank you" note at the end of the day. Rolling Eyes

In short, the whole affair is hell dodgy. in fact, we see similar things going on in the forums too.

ST loves its "special role" as mentioned by the old man.

Sometimes, they believe in their spin and bullcrap until they forget what the basic foundation of journalism is, which is to report first and foremost. Anything else, is not obligatory.

If you cannot even respect the tenet of accurate reportage, and beat your own chest when foreign publications interview politicians from other parties, and simultaneously "encourage" one-sided press coverage from the 140th media, what then is partisan press coverage?

I seriously doubt that it was an ATEC ex filmed or otherwise.
If it was indeed an ATEC ex or OPFOR scenario play... how come both the jokers in the video were in clean fatigues?

It looks to me like two idiots + one cameraman who do not have the maturity to understand that screwing around with weapons is asking for trouble.

They are very lucky no one got hurt... or they would be in deep trouble.

It may not be the actual ATEC but…....... perhaps some dry runs without SBO and helmets. Or it can be a ‘NG’ part of the filming, some how they did not delete it and it got into the hands of someone who wants to post it on you tube. Battalions may have made this clip as teaching materials for their own ppls to prep them for ATEC thus it need not have come from the ATEC center.

The movements are classic actions and tactics learnt in junior specialist school when dealing with charging soldiers.

It is not an official video, but it served a similar purpose.

Forums is a different matter. Forums are for people to exchange views and opinions. Some may have dodgy opinions, some may have rock-solid, evident-backed opinions, its up to the forum user to exercise his or her own discretion.

Newspapers should be presenting facts, and perhaps if there is enough evidence to support an opinion, then print an opinion. Otherwise, print different opinions from different people with sufficient expertise on the matter. If the facts are not entirely accurate or presented accurately, how can anyone responsibly print a one sided opinion on the matter?

Whenever weapon change hands also must do SOP.

hard to believe, if round chambered, was weapon cocked? If not when pull cocking handle; round is extracted mah?
