Much effort was expended on fitting the F15 witha Vought
anti-Satellite missle for deployment with a Fighter Interceptor Sqn
on each coast.The missile was launched from a zoom climb at about
80,000ft two rocket stages carrying it towards the satellite.Homing
was by infra-red.No warhead was fiited as the kinetic energy of the
impact was more then sufficient to destory the orbiting vehicle.The
ASAT program ended after one successful launch as it was felt to
violate a space testing treaty.
