You dont have if you dont want to. Two of my friends told me they got the phone without trade-in, recontracting only and the phone cost them $199. But I did check out the website before posting as the website says $340+. Just wanna clarify. Mind you..

Probably is that your friends got the phone during the Christmas promotion when the phone is only $199 when you recontract on plans other than Premium 700 and 1500...

For Premium 700 and 1500, the phone is free upon recontract...
