This is during the time of the Soviet-Afgan war. The Soviets are
not fighting terrorists but the mujahideen, Afgan resistance
fighters.
Other than the American accent on the Soviet troops i also noticed
that they mounted 0.5 Brownings on their Soviet tanks. That of
course is also inaccurate.
In terms of accuracy the 9th company is better, wonder if it will
be shown in SG with English subtitiles. The Russian president is
said to have watched this movie and commented positively about it.
