I believe the Akash missile program has been terminated as the
system did not meet the expectations of the Indian Army and was too
costly. Instead, additional S-300PMU2 and S-300V systems will be
procured from Russia which will be integrated with the
Israeli-built Green Pine radar.
This is totally untrue. I think you meant the Trishul (Trident
Missile). The Akash missile has cleared the stringent requirements
of the Indian Army and they will be replacing the older russian
sam's. India is also looking to the S-300 to be used against
Ballistic missiles. In the article it is mentioned that the Akash
along with the S-300 will be linked to the Green pine radar. The
Akash is a cost effective solution to counter the aircraft threat.
It was developed as an anti-aircraft missile. Now they are
improving it to be used as an ABM.
