which airsoft?

I live in Shanghai and I finally found a shop that brings in airsoft rifles etc.

They have to smuggle it in from HK etc but to cut a long story short, I have set my sights on 2 models, both from Hong Kong manufacturer Classic Army.

Which one do you guys think is better? Both received highly-rated appraisal on the web so it boils down to looks, esthetics etc

a)M-15A4 SPC

or

b)M-15A4 CQB

There is a version with the M-4 type collapsible stock. But this means the batteries are stored at the front of the weapon. THis would make the front part too heavy.

I know what you mean by your "wife" - not exactly an M4, but a CAR-15 Israeli-style.

But like I said, the M4/CAR-15 collapsible butt cannot store a battery. And this means the battery has to be stored in the front part of the weapon either within the foregrip housing, or above it inside a mock laser unit. Both these options means making the weapon front heavy.

Though the M4/CAR-15 collapsible butt is most good-looking.

Originally, I placed an order for the "A" option of M-15 SPC (Special Purpose Carbine) - which was what I wanted originally. But just now I changed my order to the CQB option.

Because at the shop this morningI handled the "B" option which is the CQB version. The butt is collapsible but is referred to as the "crane" which means it is wider than the normal M4 butt. Thus it can store the battery.

The CQB weapon is shorter than the SPC. It is an all metal construction (as is the SPC), which means it is one nasty-looking piece of compact weaponry. I picked it up and it was wicked - so dense and reassuringly heavy. Officially its weight is listed as 3kg. One guy weighed it and reported that it was 3.9kg.

Being a traditionalist I originally wanted a M16A1 just like my wife in the army. But heck, who can say "no" to this baby. I feel like a old man buying a red sports car Smile

aye, thats quite sweet.

Theres so many manufacturers of airsoft guns now, perhaps a half dozen more between china and taiwan.
Good time to invest in cheap airsoft gear.

you have to have a licence to import and airsoft per se is illegal [unless in airsoft gun club]

I live in Shanghai, where police hasn't yet has an official position on airsoft. But the import of such things is of course, not permitted. But China manufactures airsoft, I think, so it is a grey area.

It is not an offence to possess one but nobody is taking any chances - it's still hush hush.

I plan to get a few more before the official word comes in to ban them.

This baby cost USD500. Shocked I wouldn't exactly call it "cheap".

Though Classic Army is a Hong Kong manufacturer, their M-16 series is actually endorsed by Armalite - the US company that originally made the AR-15 until Colt took over the government contract. And Armalite will not just endorse any old airsoft replica.

Each weapon has the Armalite logo and a running serial number. The whole thing is of metal construction except obviously the handguard etc. And this is now one of the most highly rated brand name way above Tokyo Marui, which continue to make mostly plastic replicas.

This Classic Army model has a one piece barrel and the whole thing feels rigid. When I tested the thing, the only part that wobbled was the collapsible stock. But when I get tired of this collapsible stock I plan to replace it with a standard M-16 stock.

The owner of the shop also showed me one accessory which is a China-made aimpoint red-dot scope. The thing cost under SGD 100 and it works - amazingly. Though I have yet to try it out to see what its flaws are. And yes, it is emblazoned with the Aimpoint logo as it seems the culture of brand labelling has crept into airsoft. Doubtless because so many HKongers love airsoft.

I can imagine them alll getting geared up with their outfits and airsoft and then examining each others' labels.

Otherwise, good luck getting past customs seizure. No refund if ur airsoft gets seized.

The police does have an official stand on airsoft. It falls in the same category as FIREARMs. Which is damn sad.

Seriously, if u are a licensed importer, let me know. =D I've been trying to get USP Compact airsoft pistol for AGES.

Here's a little trick used by the AR community here: try sticking some black electrical tape towards the rear of the buffer tube to take out the slop. Put the tape far enough back so that it doesn't show when the stock is fully extended.

i was referring to the other manufacturers when i said 'cheap'.
UTG, CYMA, Wells, SRC, FMC, AIM, etc.
as for other manufacturers in the same league as Classic Army: G&P, G&G, Star, KJW, Guarder, HFC, ICS, etc, the prices are broadly comparable.
Star have a good name for innovation [the Troy M14 SOPMOD, L85, L85UGL, L86, L85 carbine, etc ]
UTG make exact copies of the Tokyo Marui's for half the price.

I know what each CA [specifically the M15A4 series] has - i've owned one for a couple of years.
Armalite got very pissed off with CA because the agreement was that CA only sell Armalite marked products through approved/licenced retailers. CA sold them to anyone and everyone.

Heres a few of mine. The CA is in the centre, with the SIR on it. The one above it is 15-20 years old.
