There is a pic of an Indonesian warship of East German origin in the thread:Warship in the Straits of Singapore. It have similar camouflage scheme as the one shown here. I suppose such design will disrupt the shape of the vessel especially when viewed over a long distance at sea. Very Happy

I have known ships to pain disruptive patterns but non of it using jungle camo. haha

Also, pointless to paint disruptive patterns also nowadays with homing missiles.

Perhaps the camo is just for show? I've often wondered why certain countries' police wear blue camo. Where are they intending to hide? In the clouds? LOL

Or why M'sia's Bomba wears red camo. Are they intending to hide in the fire which they're supposed to extinguish? Laughing

Once, on top one of our southern hills, using my friend's very powerful bino. I did spotted a suspected Indonesian warship at the waters south of St John's Island. Think it is indonesian waters already since it is quite near Batam. It has similar camo pattern as the one shown in the Pic... Hummm..so much for the effectiveness of this camo pattern Razz

My friend actually joked with me...

In SAF, Green Ammo is live rounds while Blue ammo is Dummy Ammo.

So if our NS we wear green, Malaysia's NS wears blue.....

To a certain extend, these camourflage patterns are useless , given the advancing targeting system. But one cannot deny that it is totally useless. RSAF also paint their helicopters with jungle camo, as land around the region is usually covered with trees. This is to minimise the probability of getting shot down when the pilot cock eye.

I often wonder why SAF equipment are rarely painted in camo?

Most of MAF's equipment have some kind of camo scheme.

None of our choppers are camo lah. All a greenish brown colour.

The retired UH had a US south east asian tropical camo of 2 greens and tan colours.
The SP and Fennecs has a green and brown camo pattern.

The chinooks and apaches have a plain single colour.

Sweden has boats painted in camo patterns as well.

They don't see the point.

no matter how camo you paint.... the windscreen is going to give you away.

When we hide, we use camo net.

plus its cheaper to maintain a single colour vehicle then a multi-colour one.

If I am not wrong SAF used to have this dedicated unit under the engineers which specialises in camouflaging. Their job is to hide things from aerial detection, but due to the advancement in detection technology their skills became obsolete and thus disbanded. Very Happy

super puma / fennec has the camo design painted on.
