My fav Military Occupational Specialty. Nothing beats the feeling of having a target in between your cross hairs.

Ur fav…....why dont u try and be one and see how it feels. It’s not as nice as you think it is.

nightzip SG

the smiley is correct. Cuz most snipers need to relax the eye once in a while, but cannot look too close then too far like scenery. So many snipers put either some logo, or a family picture there to see, occasionally to realx eye. Wink

Patrik SG

So cute..

really got to respect those guys man, once saw a documentary on discovery channel abt sniper training school, boy all i can say is it's not a stroll in the park. they had so many classes and skills to acquire that only a handful can make it. There's even once when none of the guys made it thru.

One shot, one kill....... juz dont be in their line of sight Wink

bismarck SG

think i saw that docu too.
damn nice Laughing

LRRP SG

What? Young punk borned in 1985 trying to say something? Have you served your NS yet or not.

BadzMaro SG

Try being a sniper in a war zone. When u are caught.. most likely u gonna be shot up.. enemies dun like snipers. Laughing What would u do... if u captured this dude that has been picking of ur buddies one by one.. slowly.. painfully.. Some more all the shots not fatal.. bleeding to death one by one.. Twisted Evil

Shotgun SG

So if u see ur fellow sniper getting caught. Do him a fav and shoot him first? lol

Obersturmfuhrer SG

I'd like to dispute that. I think it's more gratifying to have your shot down the intended target. Then there's the mad rush after that. Laughing

Jokes aside, every vocation is respectable not just commandos , snipers or guards. While it is appropriate to acknowledge the special qualities of these special soldiers, please keep in mind the "not-so-special" people who hold the Armed Forces together and keep it running. Cool

Btw, I think snipers get the coolest "toys" Very Happy

martin_lim85 SG

u seen our snipers b4? they really got some cool stuff

lwflee SG

Now I know I am going to get some (alot) of flak for this....but I met a sniper team whilst on an exercise and ...not awed.

Their sniper suit is really just that sia...the guy go and sew the saf camo net on his uniform, end up look like one of those dragon dance guys...frilly pants and frilly shirt....I thought the ghillie suit should break your shape? The ones i see in pictues and in the movies seem more... substantial. Not like the one i saw on the sniper.

Having said that...I think those two are the slack ones...Coz I've seen the sniper trainees in half-U before and their pants were certainly more like the ghillie suit we see in pictures and movies.

Edit: Btw, wat toys? Rifle, Bino/ Spotting telescope (or watever it is called), NV device, range finder. Still got other toys meh? Quite standard actually.

should the sniper wet the ground so that dust will not be kicked up when he fire a shot so as not to disclose his position?

lwflee SG

This is my favourite sniper pic Smile

Other then wetting the soil, he can simply unfold a handkerchief below the muzzle of the weapon and weigh the four corners down with pebbles/stones.

storywolf SG

For this case, it is not needed, his barrel have very good ground clearance. Also the ground is not soft soil buy small stones . Unless he use a 0.5 instead of 7.62. then his position will be disclose.

If another sniper is around, he will be using bino to check all holes, if you wet the soil or do too much preparation, he may notice it.

casshern SG

i cant just sit/lie there for like hours waiting for someone to appear. not my kind of vocation.

however i believe some of my kakis are urban snipers. that is better den the jungle snipers. at least u wouldnt have to feed mosquitoes and swat them away....
