Bad experience at Krabi

firstly when we get out of the airport, the tour guide desperately want us to go to canoeing cos he is the organiser (got commission).

when we reach the hotel we insisted that we want to go to the neighbouring island for snorkelling and he insisted that the tide is too strong " No Good" after much no no no, he got pissed and dump us one side and approach another innocent group.

We should give it a go so we went to venture the long boat for a trip to the neighbour island. we paid 2500 baht to railey island, very beautiful but far so i think it is worth it. No surpise he drive us to the nearest island which he think we are completely geography idiots. our route should turn right but he turn left and reach the place called chicken island cos the shape is like a chicken. come on as if all of us don know how to read the map we bought for the trip.

At night base on guidebook and the tip from the receptionist, a tut tut trip is only cos about 50 to 80 baht. First trip to the shopping street, the man charge us 300 each... we refuse he then instanteously say "okok 50baht!!'

Go back from the shopping street, i am quite sceptical of taking the tuttut but my friends think it is fine as long we bargain... here come one tut tut, when we ask for the price again he mark up so we decide not to take it at all not even bargaining.. he drive his tut tut to one corner and came out of it and confronted us. we have no chioce but to comply... cos the rest of the tut tut are staring at us.

Tips to go krabi,
if you are not buying don ask for fun, their facial expression will change and she will tell all her kakis there about you.

a t-shirt which she quote 700 baht and bargain till 150 baht

thot it is the culture that if you bargain you must buy, if you don then just walk away, the culture doesn't apply to tut tut, once you ask, better hope on the ride.

beware of guide, in the end they will charge you per head charge for tailing with you and it come at a huge sum...

How old are you? Is this your first time going to Krabi? I was there about two months back. I was not ripped off as much as you. This is what happens when a place becomes a tourist attraction.

You first time travelling issit? Get used to it man, especially when its a touristy area. They always quote exorbitant prices. Don't expect people to be blatantly honest. Even our own Chinatown food places have its own set of exorbitant tourists' prices. Rolling Eyes

And Tuktuk also always overcharges. The last time I was there, I'd rather go by cab and then insist the driver go by the meter. Some also wanna cheat and quote stupid prices.

i went there 2 mths back with my friends, free n easy.
quite cheap.
u just need to bargain. if the price is not right, just walk away.

Dude, I just came back from my honeymoon in Krabi last Friday...

The guide you took definitely is screwed up cos what we did was book the typical 4 island tour through this thai guy from the travel group (supposedly endorsed by the Thai tourism board), and we were just bundled off for the tour the next day. We did snorkelling at Hin Klang, in the middle of the andaman sea, at Monkey Bay, swimming at Bamboo, checked out the so-called Viking settlements and Maya Beach, and other stuff. No threats, no sweat.

The tuk-tuks are charged at flat rate of 40 baht what. The ones who wear the orange vests with the numbers? And the long-tail boatmen wear these blue vests with numbers as well. And they take turns to do their trips.

It's such a touristy spot that everything is already prepared for as much ease as possible for blur blob tourists like us.

So perhaps it was just a suay trip for you, man.

ya they all wear vests. actually some wear orange and some wear green. not sure what is the different. just wondering how much is your 4 island trip cos i went to check with the tour agency over there and it came with a hefty sum.

i must say the place is still cheap as free and easy plus tiger airway ticket plus upgrading my room to executive suite with my own pool. total is only 400 plus for 3 days.i must give credit to the beauty of the place but tuk tuk, i will never ever take again. they are leaches/

it helps to be able to speak a little bit of thai so they won't really screw around with you.

so far my last trip a taxi wanted to charge me a flat fare of 150 baht, i said 'no, use meter.'

bargaining, well usually i head to cheap places already, so i don't bother to bargain. but thats in bangkok.

i went to phuket and i didn't quite enjoy it, the market is totally spoilt by the ang mohs.

so do your research and head out on your own, its more fun that way. Mr. Green

I got ripped off same way as you by the tour guide in bangkok too, maybe it's the culture, but i avoided him 'cause tons of guide books said to avoid the tour guide. then the tuk tuk confronted us and harassed us.. I am also 25, went with my husband (same age).
