SINGAPORE : Singapore's Ministry of Defence has acquired 12 F-15SG fighter aircraft from Boeing.

The F-15SG is the most advanced variant of the F-15 and will operate as the Singapore Air Forces' next generation multi-role fighter jet.

They will be equipped with sophisticated avionics and weapons systems.

The contract provides an option for the acquisition of another eight aircraft at a later date.

The F-15SG will replace the A-4SU Skyhawks, which have been retired.

The 12 aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2008 or 2009.

for the deal, valued at more than $1 billion. - CNA /ct

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with The Boeing Company on 12 December 2005 to acquire 12 F-15SG (designated SG for Singapore) fighter aircraft. The F-15SG, which has a configuration that is unique to Singapore, will be the most advanced variant of the F-15 and will operate as the Republic of Singapore Air Forces (RSAF) next generation multi-role fighter jet. The contract also provides an option for the acquisition of another 8 aircraft at a future date.

The F-15SG will replace the A-4SU Skyhawks which have been retired. They will be equipped with sophisticated avionics and weapons systems and will give the RSAF significantly better system-level capability. The acquisition of these advanced fighters marks a milestone in the transformation of the RSAF, and will significantly enhance the capabilities and operational readiness of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

The twelve F-15SG are expected to be delivered in 2008/09. The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) will manage the F-15SG programme. Surprised

Luckily, they decide to drop the "T" tag and used the "SG" tag! The "T" tag makes the plane sound like some Trainer! Mr. Green

Whats the difference between F-15k and F-15SG in terms of capabilities and cost? Very Happy

LazerLordz SG

They absorbed the cost of the new production line in a way, that's why we and Korea might share a lower purchase cost.

SG - Super Garang. Twisted Evil

One of them is the radar. the koreans are getting the AN/APG-63(v)1, while we are getting the AN/APG(v)3.

the (v)1 is a mechanically steered array while the (v)3 is an agile beam active electronically steered array

I hope that the RSAF will eventually acquire up to 40 or even 60 F-15SG. This will give us a genuine regional strike capability and will be more than enough to deal with any forseeable threat to Singapore till 2020.

Hopefully there will be additional orders of AGM-154A-1/C and AGM-65G land attack missiles, AGM-84L anti-ship missiles and JDAMs. The new Small Diameter Bomb by Boeing Aerospace would be a bonus as well if approved for export to Singapore.

Shotgun SG

I got idea, why dun we put ERP at changi airport. Pilots pls top up ur cash card before entering changi.

Lance_han SG

eh...how is the abovementioned relevant to our discussion on the procurement of 12 F15SG jets made by the republic of singapore? Laughing

Zogel SG

We using the F15 for strike??
Shocked

Shotgun SG

haha, just that someone mentioned that COE is gonna increase soon cos of this buy? I figured its more effective to implement ERP on aircraft coming in and out of changi.

Yes, its a Mud Hen. But, the Strike Eagle is not JUST a mud hen, its also very capable in its air to air role. Can employ existing weapons such as AMRAAMs, and Sidewinders. According to the deal, we'd be getting the latest version of Sidewinders, the AIM-9X, which is supposed to have off-boresight capability. Similar to Python4.

LazerLordz SG

Yep.What else would be use it for?

CAP?Nah.

Lance_han SG

already have wad...rmb airport tax? Laughing

Shotgun SG

Thats not distinctively Singaporean yet... Must have the "beep" sound when the aircraft taxi down the runway or taxiway...

Or maybe can have pedestrian ERP gantries also... Idea...

LazerLordz SG

The pilot cannot take off without his cashcard. Twisted Evil Let the air marshal issue summons too. Laughing
