If you don't have a scholarship, then it's next to impossible to defer.

Generally, they will only allow you to defer up to JC/poly level. Otherwise, you can't. Even if you are on a scholarship, they may only grant you deferment after you finish your BMT.

don't worry, no matter what your friend's dad do will be rejected by the MOM, because the highest qualification allowed for a guy to study up to is max JC/Poly only, if want to study Uni, can WAIT til SERVE NATIONAL SERVICE and ORD first than others can talk.

Both parents are out of touch with reality. Explain to them bluntly that going down that path will make him a criminal if they decide to force him to go even after the deferement is rejected, which is almost a certain thing.
