Even if the probability of war is very remote, the burden of
defence is very real, especially for male citizens. And currently,
to many Singaporeans, the benefits of citizenship do not seem to
much outweigh, if at all, that of PR or non-citizen status, and
this is something which I feel the government must address if they
want our citizens to remain loyal and committed to the
country.
Also, I question the government's assertion of 6 million as a
viable target population for Singapore, as we are all already
feeling the effects of overcrowding in this country at this stage.
Given such limited land and other resources, can we really sustain
such a high population? I have some doubts about that.
