the Bear SG for you military nutters... click here -> fricken gorgeous pics of the F-117 they're a little too big to post so go to the site to see them all
Shotgun SG Why do u find it a joke? The iraqis sure didn't when the nighthawks offed their telecommunications buildings back in 91.
fudgester SG ..... I sure gotta get me one of those! Along with some F-22 Raptors and B-2 Spirits, please.
Lance_han SG you're really going to regret when one day, some genius invents something known as stealth detection
Delta 5 SG Actually such technology already exists. I'm not sure how many countries have it but the Czech Republic has developed a bi-static radar system capable of tracking stealth warplanes. In fact China has tried to buy a number of such systems from the Czechs.
the Bear SG they don't have to... all they gotta do is to put up mobile phone stations everywhere.. when these planes fly, the signals are slightly out of phase.. all the techies have to do is to install a program in the phone stations to triangulate the position in real time (which can be easily done) and you have the exact location of the planes... multibillion dollar technology, foiled by the humble mobile phone
fudgester SG Hmmm… what about using turbulence to track stealth planes? After all, the motion of objects through fluids (in this case, air) does disturb the motion of air around it, no matter how aerodynamic you make the object.
the Bear SG why do that when you have other cheaper means? doing this would be like the US method of throwing money at problems.. using as high-tech as possible when a simple, cheap, foolproof and low-tech answer would do... you know the story about NASA and that billion-dollar pen?
|-|05| SG i dont know but the problem with all of that is that birds and win would also appear on the detection screens.
fudgester SG Oh yeah.... the Soviets used a pencil. Seriously, I'm just trying to put forward an alternative solution to what you had suggested. Anyway, has any army tried deploying mobile GSM antenna systems as per your method?
the Bear SG you think they'd tell anyone? i think the europeans thought of this when they abandoned stealth altogether with their Eurofighter.. they just went with pure brute force and speed...
tvdog SG Yeah, does need help in the looks department. I'm sure F-15 Eagle pilots get all the girls. F-16 pilots also can do. F-117 pilots would have to settle for dancing with each other.
Shotgun SG Nasa wanted a pen that could write in zero gravity, so the ink had to flow regardless of the gravitational flow. Someone suggested to them to use a pencil.
huaichien SG I’ve witnessed the B2 take off, flypast and land at RAF Fairford during RIAT. Very quiet even when overhead. And its true the F117 is a big plane (A10, F15 size) even though it looks small in pictures.
