For this case, I would just need to judge my side. If it can clear on my side, the other will not be a problem.

actually, you have to turn your torso around so you are looking back without using the mirrors.
then you begin to reverse the car, taking care to not touch the neighbours. try to aim it so the car is equal distance from the left and right neighbours. use the side mirrors to aid you in doing that.

i myself from day one prefer to use the rear mirror n i prefer to turn my
head back to check the blind area don't really trust the side mirror not zhun one
as what i said above this is all up to own habit n ways

I still don't really like the idea of turning my head when i reverse so my very prefered way of parking is using the side mirrors..actually reverse uing side really depends on ur view and 'agar'ism. when i reverse i normally have 2-3cm (from driver side looking at left mirror parallel to the parking line on the ground) on my left mirror and around the same too on my right with the parking line as my reference....works for me but not any of my driving friends so it is really is up to ur own judgement afterall. Very Happy

agreed. what if you’re driving a goods van, you turn around and see what. yeah although you may have a clear view through the rear window in some cases, you still have to use the mirror one way or another. . the most just go in, go out, go in go, go out lah. or better still, open the door or wind down the window and look behind… but that would be really one-sided.

when i in rush, i anyhow park, even if it mean infront of other ppl cars...hahaha

i will park into lot the right side pic as top, the turn right slanted then reverse into lot...

the learning way of parking MAY NOT ALWAYS work as u know lah.. singaporeans parking not everytime centered inside a lot(at least i admit i'm one) Laughing

when i 1st drive my honda long time ago, i use the learning way, but bang into other ppl car..hahaha..

When reverse in, i see left mirror see got hit left car or not, if no, i see right mirror to see my boot got hit right car or not, then go in lor....then hv to open door to see the curb will hit bodykit or not...as sometime judging using beside car may not be the same.

I have a neighbour who always park head in and never bother to straighthen the steering wheel. So his car is always 'seng kiak' to the left or the right and the steering wheel always never straight.

But heard from some people that if parking steering wheel not striaght and neutral will cause harm to the power steering pump.

By the way, he's a old man in his 50s and drive a 5 year old Lancer, the 2000 Lancer type.

the problem with the sch's way of parking is..you r only limited to a small range to turn in..in short..you gotta catch the turning pt very accurately or else you'll haf to move forward and reverse again..

the usual method as shown..i dun see a need to explain..jus follow ur drawing and reverse in lor..meaning when u see the lot..position ur car in the way u draw and reverse while aligning the left and right..difficulty lies in the initial positioning..coz different car parks different size diffrent scenarios..most of the time its the one as shown in the drawing..

for my car i use the left rear passenger seat window (the smaller window, triangular one) as a gauge..when i turn my head and see the front of the car in dat window..i can start to reverse liao

I prefer the 2nd method that u drawn...this is VERY useful for vehs with big turning radius....Like my 5 and 7 tonners... Laughing and its quicker too esp when u are at the carpark and got ppl waiting for u 2 park so that they can move.....

Aiya as long as the car is in the lot, and not too slow who cares? Perfection is only for the pain in the arse. Once saw a lady parking she kept going in and out of the lot so many times I thought she was having sex with it Laughing

i try to position the car more than 45 degrees, or in other words as vertical as possible to the lot, so that when reversing i can have a clearer view at the far side mirror, and i don't need to do much steering adjustments anymore. then just using the 2 side mirrors to direct it in, and then opening the door slightly to fine tune, using the grass patches to judge the distance btwn the car and the edge of the parking lot, so as to centralise. but muz be careful not to hit the neighbour with your door Laughing

It's a bad idea just to look on your side. You never know what's going to pop out the other side. Always check both sides and the rear carefully when reversing.

I prefer the 2nd method of parking in my car.

I use my side mirrors almost exclusively to navigate myself in. Of course, standard checks by turning your head to check that the rear must be done.

same thing with parallel parking. I use the side mirrors to gauge distances and myself in. pretty effective method.

New BMWs have an auto-tilt function when you place your cars in reverse; best invention for parallel parkings since reverse sensors. Smile

Yup.

Kind of makes you wonder why so many other cars don't have this. Anyway these driving innovations are the sort which are really quite simple to work on.

My other useless favourites include...

- Auto dimming mirrors, as commonly found in the bmws and mercs!
- Blind Spot Info System (BLIS) found in Volvos.
- GPS System. *exquisitely* useless in singapore but it's still a very fun thing to have.
- Oldie but goodie reverse parking sensors. Smile I like the ones in mercs where the distance is displayed on the rear view mirrors, since my vision is switching btw the rear view mirror and back window when reversing anyway.
- Rain sensors. Or at least a common sense algorithm which slows down when you're stationary in traffic and picks up when you start moving.
- Understatement of the year, a bloody lousy clock with a bloody calender. Oh yah, cup holders too.

Useless useless stuff which i never use...
- tiptronic SMG on bmws, or whatever it's called on other cars. it's nothing more then a glorified gear 1,2,3. the only exception to this is the alfa selespeed. Smile
- Light sensors, as found in camrys. U still gotta remember to switch on your lights anyway.

Oh well. Still you gotta have good skills and a good feel of the car. Otherwise parking will always be a problem.
