_n00b_ SG like in irc...we can type /dns to get the person's ip...anyway to find out the ip for someone we are chatting with over msn?thanks...
coolgeek84 SG Yes possible. But you must first initiate a transfer with the person over MSN. Not a measily transfer of 100Kb but more like 1Mb. Once initiated then open up your cmd by typing "cmd" in your Run box.. Type "netstat" and it will list down all your current connections. Your MSN transfer should show up under there. I hope you are not doing any illegal thing here. I am just sharing knowledge here. Don't get yourself into trouble. =)
_n00b_ SG ok thanks…cos i wanna find out a joker who’s been harassing my blog…and i’ve narrowed down the range of suspects…so i nd the ip to double confirm what i’m assuming…thanks alot…will try it out later…
_n00b_ SG i thought it only changes when we power on and off our modem?the ip frm the person remained the same even though his visits were a difference of 3 days...
coolgeek84 SG Yeah you are right. Although we are using dynamic IP, it doesn't change unless your modem is either switched off and on again after SOMETIME or u disconnect the modem from the telephone/cable point and connected after SOMETIME... The "SOMETIME" ranges from abt 10 min to 30 min.. If you are using tagboard (like mine which is cbox) then you can find out his IP address through there too.. But your tagboard must have that feature. cbox one's is free and its great =)
aku1b0d0 SG how to translate the ip address to something else e.g. someone's address? i used to have the webby, but after an improper shutdown, all by bookmarks disappeared. can anyone gimme the website?
ndmmxiaomayi SG It depends. Some ISP changes it regularly, others don't. I know Singnet assigns the IP addresses pretty regularly, as I'm posting from lots of different addresses despite posting on the same day without shutting the PC down.
_n00b_ SG i see...luckily this ip is starhub 1...so there shld be a higher chance of me being able to find out the culprit successfully?
ndmmxiaomayi SG Do a reverse DNS lookup. http://www.dnsstuff.com/ Enter that site. Under IP test, enter the IP address into Reverse DNS lookup. Here's a sample: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=216.109.112.135
ndmmxiaomayi SG You will have a higher chance of finding out this culprit definitely as long as his/her IP address don't change regularly. Not too sure if there's anyway to block him from disturbing your blog... there should be some tools around.
_n00b_ SG nope...if my guess is right...the person should be some sad person from the class who is being outcast which is enough reason for him to do this to attract attention...
_n00b_ SG i think for the address...it will only show up if it's not residential...i managed to search out a SMU's one...but for other residential IPs i checked out...only singapore is shown...
