Mandarin is not my mother tongue. It just happens to be the national language of China.

i am a hokkien too.

i consider chinese to be the main language of any chinese. but of course, that is my personal opinion.

besides china, taiwanese speak min nan yu (another type of hokkien) and chinese too.

it is our govt's fault that many local chinese dont speak their own dialects and chinese.

It is a geographical issue.

A lot of hua2 qiao2 also cannot speak chinese (mandarin or dialect). Best example are our chinese friends from Indonesia.
