Actually the main pushing factor for procuring a longer range ASM
would be due to Malaysia's procurement of Otomat Mk II missiles
fitted on its 4 Laksamana FSGs from 1998 onwards. These missiles
have similar performance to the Harpoon but have a range of 150km,
thus demonstrating a significant range advantage over the
Harpoon.
Given Singapore's lack of transparency in defence, it would not be
surpising if we had already acquired the Harpoon Block 2 missiles
but perhaps unveil them to the public only years later.
