Internet banking sama sama also...so long as money is transferred to a 'wrong' acc, you are SCREWED BIG TIME.

Banks have the right to protect their own interest. However, Banks owe it to their clients to ensure that money which is wrongly transferred be retured back to the right client.

A 'non-response' excuse is not acceptable by any standards. So too is the bank accessing a bank acc without the acc owner's consent. Where's the security in that if any Tom Dick and Harry can get in and out of your acc with impunity and answer later?

Which is why prevention is always better than the cure.

Anyway, most accs have varying degrees of acc numbers to avoid this precise issue. Usually if the number you keyed in is wrong, the ATM will respond with an 'invalid' error.

If one different number got you another person's acc, then you are really SUAY.. Rolling Eyes

Well, you would only lose 1$ if you transfer to the wrong accnt.

I think the current procedure is correct. It should not be for the banks to be judge and jury here. If there is duress or other forms of foul play involved, then it should be for the legal system to decide.

In this case, He made a mistake and he expects the bank to step in and sort out his mistake. How is the bank able to judge if this is a genuine mistake or if he is involved in something dodgy?

That would imo be an invasion of privacy. If I were dealing with someone online I certainly would not want him to be able to get details like my name on a whim. And in this age of identity theft, the less you give away the better.

When transferring money to someone, showing the transferor the name of the person receiving the money is not "a whim" is it?

You need to insert your card and the bank can know who is the one doing the transfer. Furthermore for your argument to work, you need to give examples of how it is dangerous when people know your name and account number. This kind of information is freely available.

I dont think I like my name to appear on the screen when some joker tries to fish my name by entering an account number and pretending to transfer $1 to me...

It is if I do not want them to know! I used to do a lot of transactions on ebay and I would be miffed if I was not able to conceal my identity.

As to what mischief can be wrought with a name and an account number alone, I can think of none. However, I never made a claim to that effect. In any case, I am not a professional criminal (and, I suspect, neither are you) so my inability to wreak havoc with an account number and a name is not evidence that it cannot be done.

My point stands: In this age of identity theft, the less you give away the better.

so what if i let u know my account number...inside maybe only got a few hundred dollars only..even if this account compromised will not affect me...money that goes in will quickly be transferred, my GIRO bills shall not be deducted from this aacount, no large savings in this account...when its time for u to see even if u get the money it would hurt..who in this world will be so stupid...and u want the money...hack my aacount if ever u think i will use it for any online transaction, and i use thumbprint not signature for it

Recently I have been very blur..

two times liao..

first time went to withdraw money, but after taking the card, forgot to take the money and receipt, and left. Lucky the girl behind me called me, if not, really money gone.

I went late night shopping, wanted to withdraw $30 for dinner and expenses, then i pressed wrong account.. nvm cancel, and slot in the card again.. this time i tot i pressed 'other withdrawal' but heck... i pressed another button.. and i was so shocked when one stack of $50 notes came out. Went to the deposit machine and deposited the money back.. counted.. $1000!! Heng there was a deposit machine.. if not I'm afraid I will lose it..
