SAF's new 155mm gun

SpecOps87 SG

Mebbe we can invent a 8-10 round magazine fed artillery.Which works similar to a semi-auto handgun. So as to reduce the number of crew needed to serve a weapon and increase fire rate.

deathscythe99 SG

I wish to see how it fares in actual unit usage Laughing

Hahaha! Mr. Green I was attached to arty units before; and my good fren was from arty...that's where I picked up some knowledge about them. You mentioned a good point - displacement time. I do agree that the APU may offset counter-battery fire to some extent...but how long does it take for a LWSPH gun crew to prepare for displacement? As compared to the Primus? It will still be slower...and we have to take terrain into consideration as well...the LWSPH can negotiate flat terrain like wat we saw in the training video, but wat if the deployment ground isn't as ideal?

Second factor..even if the gunners manage to displace in time, wat about the ammo and other supplies? This goes back to the issue of self-containment vs. self-propelled....a gun can be self-propelled, but not necessarily self-contained. On the other hand, a self-contained gun is usually self-propelled... Wink

Dun get me wrong...I think the LWSPH is a good concept...but we have to be mindful of the tactical and strategic difficulties (to name a few..logistics come into play too) involved. Its like the classic problem of employing paratroopers...highly mobile, but nothing more than mere light infantry the moment they land. Mr. Green

What about the cost? Isnt using titanium expensive?

1.How SA tested the new gun in this red tiny dot?

2.The armoured Light Weight Howitzer (SLWH) Pegasus is almost for sure under
development. It took almost ten year from FH 2000 to Primus to develop.

However, with the experience in Primus and the features of Pegasus,I think
the armoured Pegasus can roll out in 6 years.

TAKE NOTE the new gun

The recoil of the Pegasus is a third lower than conventional 155mm howitzers.

and is much lighter.

I wonder if the armoured version can be heli portable.

I’d rather they come out with a light tank or MBT soon.

Singapore Technologies came out with a heli-portable,limited self propelled artillery piece not too long ago. I remember i saw the brochure on ST website before but when i go search again i can't find it anymore. Anyone have the specs to the older artillery gun? Maybe we can compared it with Pegasus. Very Happy

deathscythe99 SG

I think I heard of that b4 too...export version though Rolling Eyes

Singapore Technologies Kinetics (ST Kinetics)'s New Lightweight Howitzer

ST Kinetics has entered into a confidentiality undertaking with its customer, the Ministry of Defence, and is unable to disclose further details of the contract. This contract was awarded to ST Kinetics in 1996 before ST Engineering was formed and prior to the restructure of ST Kinetics under ST Engineering. This announcement is not a disclosure of a new contract as the contract value had been recognised in the order book of ST Engineering and some revenue recognition has already taken place.

Is it just me or are the two vertical jacks for the system looks too flimsy?

Makes me wonder what happens if you were to fire that thing on an inclined plane? Sideways that is.

I think the reason to develop artillery over tank is a commercial one.

ST must feel that there is a untapped market for such a system as it is a rather new concept. And with the emphasis on RDF both in SAF and worldwide, they could very well have a money-spinner on hand.

On the other hand, there must be close to 50 countries in the world that makes tanks - so it is more competitive.

Our previous 155mm systems have proven to be very sound and very saleable. So it is right to keep milking this area.

The Bronco will also probably prove very saleable. Has any other country bought some yet?

sbst275 SG

We will have to see its height Laughing
