Agree that the ILS alone would swing it all to the F-15E. Even politically it maybe a better decision though the benefits would not be as great as South Kore...

Greece cancelled their comitment for 60 Typhoons and said they will proceed with a proper RFP process.

The first competition did not involve any RFP. It means, and I am sure you know it, that various bidders were not given the opportunity to make their best offers. It also means that technical evaluation of the various potential aircraft can only be done based on publicly available data...not exactly the best way to shop for airplanes if you ask me. Now, as we all know, defense purchases are very much politically-driven so the Greek case was hardly the only one. But at the end of the day, it's good news for the Greek taxpayers that the new government is going for a real competition.

Also, there has been media leaks about bribery involving Greek and German officials to close the deal.

UK Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon has confirmed that the RAF will get 89 more Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft at an estimated cost of £4.3billion.

Germany, Spain, France and the UK signed their order for the second tranche of 236 jets, worth a total of Euro13 billion earlier in the week.

Mr Hoon, in his statement to Parliament said, "This is excellent news for both the Royal Air Force and for United Kingdom industry and represents the achievement of another major milestone for the Typhoon project.

"Typhoon will be an outstandingly capable, state-of-the-art aircraft which will form a cornerstone of the RAF's future capability.

The Typhoon will be a world beating aircraft and this major investment will provide the RAF with the capability to respond to the challenges and threats we face now and in the future."

Mr Hoon and the RAF were due to announce the deal at a press conference tomorrow but had to bring the announcement forward as news leaked of the international agreement.

Just wondering anyone has any lead in latest RSAF plan in their final selection of the fighter jet replacement for the Skyhawk ? The last we heard from Mindef or rather Defence Minister was that they would finalize the selection by beginning of FY2005...?

I guess you mean "Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK".
France does not buy any typhoon.

hmm... guess should be rafale and typhoon? since F-15 is considered an 'old' airframe... or rafale and F15 since there's some problems with the Eurofighter... What do you guys think?

What I heard was both the Rafale and F15 are out of the running. Which sorts of leaves me wondering how accurate those ST Aero guys are since they named one other plane that wasn’t even in the list that the RSAF was considering.

If it's a Block 60 Viper or the F-16I Sufa, they don't really need a competition for it.Just do some follow-up on the option to purchase or replace the F-16A/Bs will be sufficient.Could be true.The USAF is anticipating operating the Viper until 2020.
